Help - What is it?

A big black cylindrical object with two hose pipes attached, and located (or rather rattling about) in the compartment below the right hand main headlight. One hose goes to the plenum chamber and the other disappears down the chassis on the other side. I’m curious to know what it is before I start pulling the car to pieces to find out how to reattach it…
