Bought my Griff privately (with a bit of trepidation) a few weeks ago. I did a bit of research (Steve Heath's book, info from this forum, etc.) and it seemed like a great car, but decided to get Fernhursts to do a full inspection.

I took it down today, and they said that normally a 1996 car would have a page of stuff that needed doing after their checks - but mine needed nothing, apart from the rad being a bit leaky.

So I'm feeling pretty pleased with myself, sorry for the smugness!!! Here's a pic:

Incidentally there are a couple of silver Griffs in the PH classifieds using this pic. One is the real one, which I've bought, the other needs to put a real pic of the car up!!

Simon - I have read your thread, sounds like you had some bad luck there. Equally I've got two friends with Chimaeras, neither have had any trouble (one has done 76k miles, only one fault when a bolt on the MWay holed his rad). They don't all have to be a nightmare to live with.

I've always been a Porsche fan - did you know that my first 993 blew its gearbox up?? Difference being that Porsche said 'oh no this shouldn't happen - have a 6 grand replacement gearbox on us, sorry for the inconvenience'. Failures happen everywhere, it comes down to how willing the dealer / manufacturer is to fix the problem, and how the car's been designed i.e. how easy it is to fix the problem. The Griff hasn't got a Speed Six engine, FFS

Certainly don't think we're all doooooooooomed. Then again, mine's already broken down once (someone pushed a fuse in wrongly and bent a leg on the fuse)

Yep it's in fantastic condition... I've actually found one stone chip but it's virtually invisible. The wheels are unmarked, and it's had a new rear roof panel so it looks completely mint.

It's a very good photo by the previous owner - actually it's straightforward metallic silver (I think it's Porker arctic silver which would be ironic given my love of Porsches!!!)

All I need now is a Leven stainless dash to replace the knackered, cracked veneer.

Bloody hell.... until I put down my pint and realised that 47 isn't the same as 62, I nearly thought someone'd nicked my car!!!

I know it's a Porsche colour but silver does look good on Griffs.

( oh yeah, you've got clear side indicators and mine are orange )
