A mad, bad Mini project

I think the sad thing is that due to the lack of any communication to the community (who they built over years) they’re in danager of ill will building up.
Tbh they aren’t a Mr Beast or KSI et al and I wonder if this series has had an all around positive impact on their business and therefore pissing off a small bunch of non customers will matter?? (going to guess not)
Well, so that’s the thing. Until they got enough Patreon’s, it wasn’t their business, it was a weekend play thing. Then they got enough Patreon’s to quit their jobs and do YouTube full time, ironically the video output since that point has gone down the toilet.Tbh they aren’t a Mr Beast or KSI et al and I wonder if this series has had an all around positive impact on their business and therefore pissing off a small bunch of non customers will matter?? Probably makes sense if it was a hobby that they monetised they may of lost the love for it but feel indebted to see it through.
Although if it was me I’d finish it - thank the community - and say farewell.
I'm not a patron, so what I say holds no weight really - they only derive revenue from me via the YT views. However, to be so totally deaf and blind to the situation as to release a video of them racing in 2022 literally a year late is laughable.
I follow a mountain biker called Bernard Kerr. He will do a day's practice/qualy/racing and have the video up under 24 hours. I'll grant you, the editing isn't as time consuming and his content is filmed in a day, but still - it illustrates how the market can work.
I'm sad to say I culled them from my YT subs list. It's just "A bad Mini project" now. Shame.

I guess for me it came down to not being happy to pay £24 for a year of nothing and then have a single 33-min video...
I'm a Patreon for others who charge per video such as Leo for Tally Ho which I'm more than happy to continue with. The Late Brake Show for example is per-month but Jonny produces a lot of great content very regularly.
I get that a project like Binky isn't always going to be a quick process but it's been slowing enormously as they seem to take on other things (Escargot, C1 etc) but those don't really interest me and the first Binky video was nine years ago now.
Leo is the only YouTuber I've actually given money to. Although I just give a lump sum every now and then. Can't be doing with subscriptions. What's he's achieved is incredible.
For editing speed - shout out to "Escape to Rural France" - short videos, released daily (apart from Sundays, and the occasional note of "Sorry, I'm taking a break today with the kids, no video today")
On the Binky front, I hope they come back with any of their projects, my T-shirt makes the noise occasionally. As above, I am just a youtube number adder, so cannot really say much.

It does feel a bit scammy now, they're basically relying on people who have forgotten they've signed up and don't regularly scroll through their direct debits.
They must must be under 1 Binky episode per year now.

Just had a quick nose on Patreon.
They have two tiers £2 a month and £4.50 a month for “premium”
They have 3384 patreons
Assuming 10% are premium then they are raising £91,368 a year.
Maybe use that money to get retropower to finish it for them…
Trimworks (Retropower's trimmer guy) did the Binky seats and door trims. They have two tiers £2 a month and £4.50 a month for “premium”

Payment processing costs 5%. Assuming Founders plan, platform fees are another 5%. Another 1% just to get paid. And 2.5% on all currency conversions. And of course there's VAT to deduct. So that £91k is more like £67k.
Still not to be sniffed-at, at all. In 2019, when they were still publishing earnings per month, Patreon was reporting $7.2k per month. If you pro-rate that for Patreon numbers (which are higher now than then, but which peaked at 4800 in August 2021) gives you $9k per month = £7.1k per month = £87k per year.
Which is very close to the estimated £91k per year.

Even though i have been watching from the very first episode i'm not a patron so just take each video as it comes. Hopefully the lack of updates is down to lots of fabrication and filming and not anything health or family related.
I also hope this, but some clarity would be nice.“Hey people that invest their time and money into us, our lives post lockdown and post covid are very up and down. We’re gonna give the channel an indefinite hiatus, and we’ll let you know when we’ll be back”
But no, they still take the Patreon money and appear to dick about with other projects. The last video was pretty laughable progress wise when it had been more than a year since the video before.
Of course, they don’t owe me anything as just a viewer and subscriber. But they do owe Patreons something, and I don’t think they’re delivering. I realise that my words probably mean nothing to them, but the whole situation just makes them look a bit knobby/cheaty tbh.

The graph shows they appear to have lost roughly 1000 of the 4000 or so Patreon supporters in the last year and declining steadily.

I think they've gone down the mother of all rabbit holes with the dash. As much as I love their work some compromise and pragmatism should have been in evidence.

Also, you can also pay them $1 a month if you wish, although would get no benefits/extras (insert your own joke here).I give a nominal $1 to several content providers (although not BOM) even when some of them advertise a minimum tier of $2, 3 or $5 etc.
I agree with others that they perhaps they need to do a 'final' video on Binky and declare the series over - although project cars are never finished and they can continue to fiddle about with the car off camera.
I do remember them ages ago doing a video where they had all their new projects (that MG, escargot etc) and they seem to have got no where with anything. I think they did the C1 after which was a complete series and then nothing. I understand that they could be having issues with Binky but i'm sure they could get some content out on other projects....
Unless business has just overtaken them and they have basically given up on Youtube in which case they should come out and say that and archive everything.
