Gobsmacked by quotes I’ve had on a 70plate RR Vogue SDV6, valued at 65k. No accidents or claims in over 25years of driving…..note that the excess is £1k!

Surely this is going to hammer residuals? Best price I’ve had is just under £1.5k with a mediocre company.

11% of the vehicle value. It must be like being 17 again!

I wonder whether there will be any impact on new car sales. Our Vogue is 7 years old now and it may be the last Range Rover we buy.
It’s a shame as I really miss my RRS and would love a FFRR but I can’t justify that kind of expenditure. Even when I bought my first car in my teens I only paid £890 (not sure why I remember that exact figure when I don’t remember what I had for lunch yesterday) for a VW golf TPFT!

Let’s be honest and stop blaming the car companies. The real issue is the inability to adequately punish the scrotes responsible for the high levels of crime we are witnessing.

Land Rover was lazy for quite a long time, regarding security. They denied the problem existed at one point.

But yes, our legal system needs a comprehensive overhaul. By the way, the fine young chaps that nicked mine got jailed.

I was refused insurance on my RR Sport by LV recently having been with them for 40 years and have 30 odd years of NCD.

I live in rural south Devon.

I have an 11 plate L322 and was greeted with this renewal last week

I had to shop around hard but did get it down to £705 - 41, East Sussex, 10+ Year NCB, Clean lics - yet over £1000 more than last year confused

Seems the newer ones getting nicked are pulling up the prices on insurance for the entire model regardless of age

Yep. I was with LV when I bought my new RRS and they flatly refused to quote. Went with esure in the end.

I,m in Devon too and was with LV who would not insure it. I went with Adrian Flux in the end and mines Overfinch modified which presents even more problems.

Just seen LR at top of the list of stolen cars basically 1in every 100 is stolen.

That’ll explain the insurance situation…..

In reality, how vulnerable are they if you disable the keyless entry?

I've disabled mine and taken a few other measures and would rather like to keep it where I left it

The next challenge would then be having a sensible conversation with the insurance company about what you've done:

"Ahhh... So it's a modified vehicle?"

Similar here. Informed the insurance company and they are only interested in Thatcham approved products.

Given your enhanced anti theft measures maybe you could accept a huge excess for theft in order to reduce premium?

Why would I do that when I pay c.£800 a year for my 23 plate RR? The additional security, which is not recognised by the insurance company, is about minimising the risk of the cost and pain of it being stolen. It’s a personal choice.

On the Collecting Addicts podcast the other week, Chris Harris referenced a friend who split his time between being in London and in the country.

£50k excess if the car was stolen whilst in London (unless I misheard)

I prefer to take the train into London, and avoid visiting altogether if I can.

My RRS doesn't really go within 300 miles of London, but still has gone up from £400 to over £600 this year. Couldn't beat the renewal quote either. frown

You didn’t mishear. I heard that too and was mildly blown away by it.

I was driving behind an L494 RRS last week with a really odd looking bit of duck tape on the lower edge of the tailgate (offside). It looked like it was holding down a flap, that was open, which is weird as there is no flap there.

Bit of googling revealed that those thieving scamps have found out that there’s a wiring loom under the panel there and if you get into it you can disable the security on the car. “Land rover offside tailgate cut” or something brings up a few examples in google.

Apparently Ghost and similar immobilisers protect against a CAN bus attack. They can still enter the car but not start it:

2010 5.0 S/C - last year £220, this year renewal quoted at £279.

Did the usual Gocompare re-calc of last years details and best available elsewhere was £300 'ish.

So will just let the auto-renew roll it on for another year.

I think that last statement is true, in fact a broker said as much to me, although I challenged it. I've just had a similar issue to you on a similar age L322, 5.0 SC. Last year was £290, fully comp, age 62, retired, Kent, no accidents or convictions, 10+ NCB. This year, nothing changed, they wanted £630! After much searching I got it "down" to £440. I pay far less for a DB9 (£260-ish) albeit less miles.

Someone else on here recently said the hikes might mean the end of their RR ownership.
