D 3 HSE Prices?

2006 HSE Black 22K 1 Owner Privacy Glass Side Steps LR Warranty to Oct 09 £22K Sounds quite tempting - what do you think?
Not so sure. Sounds expensive when you consider that my mate was offered barely £12k for his 2006/06 HSE Auto (over 50k miles though). Note too that the supplying dealer was not interested at any price - as they are not buying stock. One other LR dealer only offered £11k for it! The guy who came around here to quote for doing my driveway was driving a 2008 registered (57 plate) HSE Auto in a dark metallic green. It looked really good. He paid £19k for it back in Oct/Nov timeframe and it had 20k miles on it... He bought it at the sale which LR organise to offload their management cars. He told me it wasn't an auction - each car had a fixed price (and came with £400 worth of M & S vouchers to boot!). His wife works at LR and hence they were allowed in. As it was described to me there were a large number of cars and plenty to choose from (all at fixed prices).
For those thinking of buying a few month old Land Rover, bear in mind that LR sales fell through the floor in August/September so there will be a lot less on the s/h market in a few months time. Anybody hopeing for a late 08 or early 09 vehicle in a year or more's time will find them scarce.

Although there seem to be loads of pre registered ones at the dealers which will further depress prices as well as providing second hand stock over the coming months....Any update on the prices these cars are fetching at the moment? Am still dithering on the sidelines but am wondering whether I might be better off waiting until the new engine comes out-might reduce prices on the 2.7,though two main dealers (Stratstone) have told me that we are unlikely to see the new cars/engines until 2010 "at the earliest"...any thoughts/info much appreciated?

Know what you mean..the dealership I went to for the test drive felt a bit gloomy- very quiet even for a monday morning and an empty desk on the main showroom floor where I assume a salesman used to be sited. Also quite a bit of empty floorspace in the showroom where they usually have a couple of vehicles..maybe in the middle of a re organisiation of the showroom or maybe just a sign of the times?
We enjoyed the test drive but am struggling a bit with the thought of living with 25 ish mpg and what is probably going to be ever more punative road tax on a car that will probably depreciate more markedly when the new version becomes available later in the year..so back to dithering for me then!

Think of it this way, the new engined car I should think will not be offered at discount like you will see on a current D3. It may well stimulate some good sales, current sales are bad, but have some perspective, they are down 30% not 90%, people are still buying new LR's.
So I would bargain v hard on a current D3 and get some of that depreciation taken off courtesy of the dealer. (Mind you the new D3 will be a stonker!)

New engine has greater bhp. lower co2 and better mpg. 3.0 version is based on current 2.7 but many parts have been redesigned
Goes into the Jag XF with 240 and 270bhp versions.
Nicked from Autocar.
Capacity has increased to 3.0 litres, and power is up by 33 per cent, from 207bhp to 272bhp. Torque increases to 420lb ft from 320lb ft, a 66 per cent hike. That makes the new unit more torquey than any of its rivals apart from the BMW 535d.
The new engine means that the Jaguar XF S, as the new diesel model will be called when it arrives in dealerships in March, can hit 60mph in 5.9sec, 1.8sec faster than the old 2.7-litre diesel. The car’s CO2 emissions fall from 199g/km to 179g/km.
Along with the 272bhp engine, there will also be a 237bhp version with the same fuel consumption and CO2 emissions, although that model’s 0-60mph time is increased to 6.7sec.
How these figures change when the engine is fitted into a 2.7 ton discovery is still to be seen but ill assume that bhp would be at least 220 minimum.
Current prices seem to have firmed up a bit though. Less people buyng brand new but going used/nearly new at a considerable saving.

I've had mine chipped by JE Engineering. Extra 45hp and 100nm. It's an auto and I get between 26.5 and 28mpg average depending on how much towing I am doing.
I will admit the £400 tax does make me wince considering the cr*p state of our roads.
How do you find the extra power improves the car Storer; is it low down or once you get the D3 moving and does it improve the overtaking ability? I often find I'm stuck behind someone doing say 45mph but they then creep up to and then down from 50, I want to travel at the 55 to 60mph mark but don't feel confident there's the grunt to get the overtake done safely so end staying behind the yo-yo for ever!I will admit the £400 tax does make me wince considering the cr*p state of our roads.
I was thinking of getting the JE upgrade...any feedback/comments much appreciated Oh and the JE upgrade is much cheaper than DMS isn't it?

It is not the big improvement that the upgrade brought to the TD5 Discovery but an improvement none the less. You would probably notice it more in a manual as the auto box tends to change down rather than use the extra torque if in full auto mode.
