Width. And Land Rover speak. It's a Land Rover forum.

Ranger Rover P38.

Discovery 3.

The 'full fat' Ranger Rover (FFRR) and Range Rover Sport (RRS) are wider.
Thank you.

I know it's at Land Rover forum but some of the 'lingo' is a bit much.

Personally, I blame Land Rover.

In my very humble opinion, I never really thought they should dilute the Range Rover flagship by having other Range Rovers - Sport and then Evoque - although in retrospect, I freely admit the grand plan does seem to make a hell of a lot of sense globally. It's just all very confusing.

This is a pet hate of mine. Having run a P38 and two D3's, I'd say the biggest deterrent to buying a FFRR or RRS for the UK is the width. Anyone who has to use the piddling UK network of comedy-sized car parks will know what a PITA it is to find spaces that fit big cars.

I know you can, but it just becomes a chore hunting for end/corner spots that allow you and neighbouring vehicles to open your doors without denting one another's bodywork. Mrs Digga's Evoque already sports a small ding in the driver's door - at 1895mm I now understnad perhaps why.
Completely agree. I now completely avoid Cole Brothers (John Lewis) car park in Sheffield. It used to be a tight fit in a Volvo V50 but impossible in anything from LR.

I wonder if part of the reason for the drift upwards on RR is to pander to the American market as their SUVs just got bigger and bigger but their car park spaces are bigger.

Mind you one knows it's a big old bus when you have to play the same hunt for wide open spaces at Wal-Mart because of a tight fit. Frankly at one time our lot always seemed to dish out a Ford Excursion or Chevy Suburban and wondered why the dopy English dude was happy to drift wink around in a Crown Vic.

Paartly, but also the very lucretive emerging markets - China, Russia and India, where the ultra wealthy tend to think bigger is better.

For JLR, this is not 'wrong', but it does mean their cars become less relevant to us in the UK.

We think of the new Sport as a compact. hehe

The new LWB FFRR will probably end up dominating the sales here. We already sell twice as many XJL as XJ.
