I took delivery of my P530 LWB Autobiography a couple of weeks ago. LR flew me down to Birmingham for their Handover Experience at Solihull which I thoroughly enjoyed, off road driving, factory tour, lovely lunch and very glitzy new car reveal which I won't go into detail about and spoil it for any new owners yet to experience it.

As mentioned previously I was aware the the new RR is a very stolen item but I had not given it much thought. In the evening as I was making the long drive home from collecting my car I pulled into motorway services on the M6. As I returned from the toilets I noticed a group of three men approach my parked car from a nearby van walk around it and then get back in the van. I got into my car and drove round to the petrol station and as I was filling the car the same van pulled up at the adjacent petrol pump and two of the men got out but did not attempt to put fuel in their van and for want of a better description looked very shady. I locked the car with the fob in my pocket, stopped filling up and quickly walked into the petrol station. I waited for quite some time until eventually the men got back in the van and drove off.

I am not a nervous person and there might be a perfectly logical explanation but the whole thing made me feel very uneasy and quite vulnerable. Not sure a petrol station forecourt is the best place to carjack someone but I certainly felt is was about to happen to me.

Anyway the new RR is a fantastic car and I am very happy with it but unfortunately I think its probably a bit more 'in your face' than I had realised. So I have decided to take advantage of the current inflated price on the used market and sell it back to the LR dealer. Their current offer is £15k profit plus £5k off a 6 month old Defender 90 V8. I think I will take the deal but probably regret it and then have to join the two year que for another Range Rover!!

Not to rain on your parade however i am pretty sure a defender would be just as desirable to thieves as a FFRR especially in v8 guise.

Most LR products are highly sought after by thieves, unfortunately.

Land Rover do seem to be targeted.
Is it because they are easier to steal or easier to dispose of?

I hate to say this but they just don't look right without privacy IMO, but hey each to their own still great whatever.

I think the exact opposite, so as you say, each to their own!

They use to be easy to steal especially the keyless entry cars. Not sure what they do with them though. I know Audi and VW RS/R models are popular for jobs that require a quick get away which is often what they are stolen for but land rovers no idea.

Range Rovers did go through a phase of being the ram-raiders' vehicle of choice, for obvious reasons!

I imagine many are stripped for parts or given a new identity and sold on as they are high value cars. I am not sure if ram raids are reported in the press but I haven't heard of them in numbers akin to the amount of Rangies I hear about being stolen.

Maybe parts for stolen rangies where people want to keep away from dealers? If you are buying up smashed cars with no record (abroad) or exporting crash damaged cars from salvage auction I believe they do not have to be recorded so a nice supply of free parts to go with them probably helps....there is clearly some reasons for nicking them.

you forget that there is quite a market for making older Range Rovers look like newer Range Rovers or turning a base exterior into a SVO exterior on the cheap.

There has been for older models but is anyone modifying the L405 to look like the L460? Do any bits fit?

Bear in mind the thread direction comes from a new FFRR owner suggesting he might change to a Defender to avoid having it stolen.

Nothing will fit, Powerful UK etc will no doubt have some replica grilles, door trims and so on soon enough.

I imagine a lot of stolen cars that aren’t broken for parts end up in RHD Africa.

I completely disagree, despite having had 4 Land Rovers in a row with privacy glass. Thankfully, there appear to be more people who agree with you, so I've never had any problems selling them!

My new L460 - if ever it arrives - will be my first spec'd without privacy glass, so great to see some others out there. I need to get used to the rear windows behind the rear doors, but broadly speaking, I like what I see.

I’ve owned a couple of Range Rovers without privacy glass and others with it.
We live in the South of France and own a Bernese Mountain Dog and down here the privacy glass gives that little bit more shade for our dog’s comfort.
The aesthetics don’t even come into consideration.

How is anyone with an order getting on with indictated delivery times or build slots?

I received a call the other day that my original order D300 Autobiography placed on launch last year finally has a build slot of March.

Absolutely nothing about the 440e Autobiography order I made when that was launched in February, and the velocity blue i spec'd has been temporarily removed from the colour options.

Plug in hybrid, Autobiography and special colours are the ones they seem to be struggling to get out.

On a footnote, the RRS 510e launch edition we currently have is an absolute corker of a vehicle.

I heard last week that I have a build slot for my launch ordered P530 autobiography in March 2023.
