I heard last week that I have a build slot for my launch ordered P530 autobiography in March 2023.
Nice spec motor mush!

Well just had an interesting call

Ordered a P440e back in June with an expectation of a 12-18mth wait. We put a dummy spec in with the agreement with the sales guy that we'd refine nearer the time when we knew what was happening re option availability etc

A few months ago had an email from the sales guy saying he was leaving and introducing me to the new sales person who'd be looking after me - that email exchange confirming still looking like late 2023, will let me know when ready to do final spec etc etc (prob upgrade from an SE to an HSE) and that when they get a hybrid in they'd get me behind the wheel.

Now I've just had a call from the dealer saying my car has arrived!!! Turns out, that despite having the right email address on the order form and already having exchanged emails the new sales bod had then been emailing a very old email address they had on the system and hadn't bothered following up when they'd had no response.

So, car is sat at the dealers - fortunately right external and interior colours, probably not on the wheels I want (on the standard 21" 5112), with a tow pack I probably no longer need and possibly without some of the options i want... and the money currently not in the right accounts to get at it easily/cheaply

Decisions, decisions

Ordered my D350 HSE with a few options last Nov and it’s been built. Due to be at the dealers by 9/12 and pick up a few days afterwards. Happy Xmas to me smile

An observation for new owners.

My wife has had her new RR since September and covered 5k miles. It's a great car. However, the new brushed aluminium that has been used on the centre console, door handles and tread plates is incredibly soft. Combined with the piano black finishers, I think the interior will look a bit knackered after a year or two!

That would be very frustrating but I personally would have guessed that would happen when the sales guy changed...I would have had to set the spec then.

It will drive better on the 21's than anything bigger IMO.

The L405 illuminated sill trims are bad enough for that - I was going to get some PPF cut, but it was £45…

Doesn’t seem too bad to protect that part that wears hard.

How is anyone with an order getting on with indictated delivery times or build slots?

I received a call the other day that my original order D300 Autobiography placed on launch last year finally has a build slot of March.

Absolutely nothing about the 440e Autobiography order I made when that was launched in February, and the velocity blue i spec'd has been temporarily removed from the colour options.

Plug in hybrid, Autobiography and special colours are the ones they seem to be struggling to get out.

On a footnote, the RRS 510e launch edition we currently have is an absolute corker of a vehicle.
Nothing from my dealer. But my car is the 510e AB so I've pretty much given up chasing for an update.

In some respects, I'd also rather wait until they sort out some of the spec challenges. If waiting another 3-6 months means I get items like the top spec Meridian system, rear view sightless mirror, etc then I'm fine(ish) with that.

Definitely.

The RRS 510e we currently have is a Launch Edition so it slipped through the net with all the goodies on it.

The Meriden is fantastic, and the rear view mirror is one of those items you wonder why its not an option fitted to vans etc that already have a 360* camera ...its a great wee bit of kit.

The front cameras that let you view around a completly blind corner when you only have the nose slightly forward is amazing!

JLR have announced today that they're reducing production until late March due to the chip shortage. Fewer shifts will mean fewer cars and longer delays but hopefully the result will mean more customers being able to take delivery of their ideal spec car.

Reduced production on lesser models it seems.

The action is expected to affect the output of models such as the Jaguar F-Pace and Land Rover Discovery Sport.

The move is understood to be temporary, with JLR focusing on more profitable models such as the Range Rover.

I ordered in April/May time. A conversation last week indicated that there was no allocated build slot and I was most likely a year away from having a car. Autobiog PHEV.

Is the increased delivery times discussed above, the reason why ordinary spec cars (SE) are being listed 30k over list price, by dealers themselves?

I even saw a P530 V8 new Range Rover being listed for £40k above list

Do you think we’ll see similar well into 2023?

And what is the increase risk of theft - is there any risk of carjacking or Relay theft?

Thanks!

My dealer just quoted 2 years plus for the delivery of a new RR. Luckily mine is awaiting release from the factory anytime now. I am considering putting another RR order in soon on the off chance the depreciation is low over the next 2 years. Nothing to lose really as the deposit is refundable.

Was that for a FFRR or RRS? I’m considering placing a deposit on the electric RR and expect it for 2025/6.

This is the FFRR thread so I was referring to that. There is a separate RRS thread who are discussing delivery times too.

I did exactly that.
I kept the diesel Autobiography order I made on launch last October which now has a confirmed build date in March, but I also put a deposit on a lwb 440e on launch date in February, but the tripple whammy of being plug in hybrid, Autobiography and velocity blue has delayed that till who knows when.

The first edition 510e rrs that we were very fortunately offered and currently have is a truly fantastic car though...cannot recommend the plug in hybrid models enough.

Over 1000 miles so far and still never used a drop of petrol, and really shifts.

Do you think placing a deposit now leaves you with little leverage on price and spec, going forward? Or can you re-discuss price nearer delivery?

I feel with the value of L405s dropping quite quickly now, impending recession, finance costs rising and new specs falling that there could be a significant drop in demand? It could change from a seller's market to buyer's quite swiftly.

Even if paying cash I guess you're not going to want to feel you've been bent over?

And, yes, it is cold and uncomfortable sat on the fence smile
