Good news. Hopefully things will begin to settle down outside of London.

It won't. Here in sunny Moss Side (SW2), a neighbour has awoken to a window smashed on their Merc estate.

I ordered a Mazda CX-60 rather than the Defender I wanted as a direct result of the security, theft and insurance issues JLR products are currently suffering.

If the sniggering, jokes and generally derogotary comments of friends and colleagues about the CX-60 is a guide, nobody will want to steal anything as low rent as a Mazda.

Perhaps I should have added ‘outside of London and outside the other large conurbations that are filled with thieving rats’ smile

Not so sure. May be just a case of an insurer deciding they don’t want any Land Rover on their books, but my renewal came through overnight for a classic LR I’ve got. The price quoted is circa six times last year’s figure!

Sod em. There’s plenty of good cars, off the beaten track, that don't compute with the scum.

Unfortunately the 550e SV I ordered somehow turned up with a black interior instead of Perlino, so I declined it and have a new build date of 3rd week in Feb.

Anyways, as an interim vehicle until then, I bought a last of the old shape 21 plate p400e Westminster Black that they had.

The delta in price between the new SV and the 21plate is over six figures, but somehow it was an extra £320 to insure the older model.

I am guessing the older models are in higher demand with the bad lads or easier to steal.

On a footnote, the old shape is a corking motor and still offers 35 mile range on fully 'leccy; well impressed.

Wait until winter properly kicks in. My record low in my old P400e RRS was 12 miles if memory serves or less than 1 mile per kWh….

I reckon your theory is probably correct. The older models must be far more valuable at the moment to part out as they’re more common and therefore the demand will be higher for bits.

Were they not willing to supply you with a loan vehicle? I know had a spec screw up and they were in a demonstrator for several months. Likewise, I was told the reason one of the local dealership's demonstrators was out for an extended period was due to what sounded like a similar issue.

It's no wonder JLR is the company it is with customers like Wheelspinning.

Normal drill is to let customers take the incorrect car pending delivery of the correct one.

Everything happens for a reason.

I had a Porsche T that I ordered arrive in September that somehow came without the aerokit; I declined that also, and since then, they are still trying to find a buyer for it at just under £20k from my invoice price.

Mabe the SV was a tad too much for what it actually is, and there was a potential serious punch to the nuts coming.

At least I can see where the market is come February and make a more informed choice.

The 'temp' rangey is actually a rather good car and probably won't lose very much, if at all, as its already shed a fortune since it was new in September '21.

If the new shape goes into freefall, we might just hold onto it.

If insurance and interest rates reduce and it all kinda sorts itself out, then we take our new order.

All in all, It's not anything worth getting annoyed at.

The passenger door locking thing isn’t uncommon. MrsLTs Mini has it, and I’ve seen it elsewhere too.

Alarm going off if you disconnect the battery has been around for ages as well. JLR have done it for ages on the previous Defender.
Did they do it on 1999 models?
I have a 1996 Discovery Commercial and the alarm goes off if you disconnect the battery

Unfortunately the alarm also goes off randomly when locked so I tend to leave it unlocked

According to my perhaps overly candid dealer, the SV/SVR models have indeed recently been delivering that experience. Much more so than other variants.

The dealership is very keen indeed to get our new car registered before month end: not sure whether this is down to meeting dealership targets, concerns about levels of cancellations, or some other factor.

Wouldn’t be expecting any meaningful downward shift in interest rates or insurance by Feb!

They've got to get those prices deltas from somewhere.

I know JLR are retrofitting better security for 2018+ models. Does anybody know if this is available for pre-2018 models? Or are we being hung out to dry?

So had British or European motors for 40 years, last rangy went missing, so purchased a 2 yo porker because it had a physical key but returned as developed so many faults, then went to another porker dealer and strangely saw a defender with a Denver boot and steering wheel lock on and thought this can’t be right for something with a premium cost.
Bottom line started using Mr’s Hyundai Tuscon which is a year old, and fantastic all the bits as standard and more nic nacs and you can leave it dumped by the road for a month and it will be there on return. 5 year warranty and only £300 a service!
RR and Porkers great if you want to pay 5x the price for an unreliable look at me and a bit of drama thrown in.
