I would like to purchase some shares this year, and after doing some research will be investing. All i need to know is the best online place to buy and trade, any recommendations?

Thanks in advance,

Charles

Iweb are good at £10 per trade.

I've done pretty well over the last 12 months using Yahoo UK Finance's broker recommendations. 38% up overall.

OK share gurus - answer me this:

better to stick with big boys, ie, Microsoft, Porsche, bP etc etc

or punt on cheap little mining, tech or medical ventures??

It strikes me that apart from a couple of big excpetions (ie Marconi) it must be hard to go wrong with the big, well known shares.

I'm in COH too, bought in at 20p and 37p, nice little earner, still holding.

My tips are Tullow Oil (TLW), Bede (BED) and BIFFA (BIFF)

All of which are where my mouth is!

Also bought Corporate Synergy (CSG), Sterling Energy (SEY)

Been holding and accumulating Desire Petroleum (DES)
DES is a massive 'punt' one for the very brave, potentially huge though.

DYOR of course.

Wolfson are bound to do well out of the iPhone.
AG Barr and RBS are always solid performers too.

Still Keller Group for me - missed out on the first big upsurge, but I think there's more to come. Becoming increasingly aggresive from a sound foundation IMHO.

Pan Andean Resources (PRE) at 15.25p, starting to breakout on the chart after years in the doldrums, my biggest holding by a mile so money is definately where my mouth is!

Company on AIMS called Virotec - Australian, delisted from the Aus Stock Exchange to re list here late 2006 - make a product that cleans polluted waterways. I suspect they're aiming to do quite a bit of business in Eastern Europe as the new entrants to the EU have to satisfy the standards placed down?

15p a share, sounds like my type of punt! I'll buy 3 of them!

They dropped from 15p a share to 12.9p, so I had a few bobs worth. Within 2 hours they released a report saying everything was rosey and I gained 5.5% in a morning. Wished I had a few more, presuming of course they are on the way up and this peak is not simply induced by the 7 that I bought.

Interesting to see which sectors are performing. I would have thosut aerospace adn defence would be doing great, but as a sector its not doing any better than the FTSE100. SAme with banking. Interesting to see both land line and mobile telcomms doing so well.
