Welcome to my world! It's very galling when you try to operate honestly and run a business based on integrity and added value and then you are compared to Estate Agents.

Essentially we are all the sum of our experiences and ultimately if you receive below par service from a recruiter you want to share your experiences.

I agree with many of the points you have made today especially in the 'Consultancy Vs Recruiter' debate.

My MO with clients and candidates is to offer a 'consultancy introduction service' Kinda OK you want this skill set and experience, here's someone i beleive you should be talking to. However I am a middleman. I think it's was Gambon who said in a popular film 'The Art of good business, is being a good middleman! Or something like that.

Just smarts me when I hear candidates complaining about one experience with one recruiter and broadbrushing the whole industry as a consequence.

As I said if applicants don't like dealing with recruiters apply direct!

I could go on about the numerous court cases I am having to deal with currently, where 'Contractors' have forged timesheets fraudulently to obtain money from us illegally etc, but rather than write off the whole contracting community I will reserve judgement and keep schtum, rather than write off a bunch of good people with professional integrity.
An attitude that does you credit and one that I have chosen to adopt myself in this thread with regard to agencies. I've had my fair share of court actions against agencies who think that just because their client hasn't paid them, that gives them some sudden extra-contractual right to withold payment from my company. Sorry chaps, but that's the risk you take as a middleman and why you get your pound of flesh. So I think perhaps our experiences balance each other out and I'll raise a glass to your attitude of acknowledging that there are always a few good apples in even the most rotten barrel. smile

Anyone got any decent contracts in Thames Valley for a C++ contractor with 13+ years experience, BTW? wink

Dave R, just out of interest?

What's your skill set?
Hi Bruce, at a high level "Testing", I'm quite up on the QA side and have a lot of experience in Test Automation. I'll pop you over a CV if you have an email addy?

Jon, drop 'Mosi' an email and I'm sure he will do what he can or at least get some of his guys on it. I'll mention you in my email to him later.
