rofl Do the originators ever listen to themselves talk? I bet they are the comperes of bullst bingo games that their employees play in their meetings. The true David Brents of the business world.
It's all crap. The name alone gives it away, as anyone with an understanding of statistics will see how ridiculous the six-sigma claim is.

This sort of guff is notable by its absence in the higher levels of good firms, and is endemic in the civil service. Make of that what you will.

I feel for the OP, being made to jump through such a stty hoop. You can file it with Myers-Briggs, reiki, TQM, and homeopathy.

It is for TfL so plenty of civil servants have contributed to the framework.

I have a plan to sort this problem out so will know in january if it has worked out/.

Well, good luck. As I said, it's a shame that they make you jump through this hoop, and hopefully you'll find a way to win.

You can apply Six Sigma and all the other guff as much as you like. However if you start off with a crap product you will still end up with a crap product. It may be a better built crap product and the company producing the crap product may improve the management and production process. But at the end of the day it's still a crap product.

Yep SS, been there, bag of st outside of manufacturing.

Just tell them that you are a Six Sigma 3 Dan Master and for £10M GBP you could possibly help them to come up to standard. Who the fks says you can't appoint yourself a new level? Don't worry, these pricks can't tell a sigma from an omega.

Stevieb, its not just as simple as reading a book. This is a full problem solving technique. You need to get yourself enrolled on a Six Sigma Blackbelt course and buy some software Minitab or the such.

You will be competing against experienced Blackbelts or even Master Blackbelts.

It sounds like a good contract but might have come at a too early stage for you. The other option is to use an experienced affiliate.

If you need more information pm me.

I know its not as simple as reading a book. But I am the lead Partner (2 others are working with me), i just want to guage how hard it would be for us to adopt, and if it is reasonably straightforward, we are willing to pay for a specilist consultant to work along side us.

Also no other companies have applied the SixSigma Principles to my field of work. It has been put forward as a possbile strategy to manage the quality of our works. We have got ISO 9001 certification which was a big plus for us being so small.

Without knowing your field of work, Six Sigma is the reduction of variation in a process until it has a long term statistical capability, Cpk of 2.0, or in other words the process only produces 3.4 defects per million opportunities. It can be applied to most processes. Whether it is the right tool for this job, only you will know, but you will need to make substantial savings from using this tool for it to be worthwhile.

This is good.

What is your line of work? It could well be that a few of the more straight forward tools and "best practice" methods will do all that is required for the "box tick" exercise to keep you in the bidding game.

Is the customer requiring that any specific techniques are used? Most of the basic methodology can be covered at Green Belt level nad will also cover the stuff required for transactional and process based work as well as amnufacturing. Much of the added stuff for blackbelt is deep statistical design of experiment stuff and is likely to be overkill.

Keep us posted with any specifiucs and we can point you in the right direction.
