Gone very quiet
Discussion
Over the past two or three months we in the electric motor industry have started to see a slight increase in business. This could be customers who were sitting on tons of stock are now having to replenish. One concern though is the new increase in energy costs. We had to impose a surcharge on customers back during Covid times. We were expecting to drop it by January. But its looking now like it will continue for a while yet.
Workload for me at the moment isn’t busy. It’s MENTAL !
To add to the fun, my Wife has been helping me, otherwise there just wouldn’t be the hours in a day to get the workload completed. As it is, I’m out until 20:30-21:15.
All of that was great until today……
“Be careful with the van doors today darling. It’s ever so windy”
Wife: “No need to speak to me like a child. I know what I’m doing”.
I got back home from work to find that my spare van, the one that she has been using today, needs a new drivers door and a new wing.
In her typical fashion, she flung the door open with all of her might and a strong gust of wind finished off the job for her in spectacular and expensive fashion. Not at all her fault of course. I mean, whoever would have thought it would be a good idea to carefully open a door whilst maintaining a strong grip with both hands in blustery conditions?
How ironic that for a laugh we both completed IQ tests last night. She scored 121, whilst I scored 59, but yet apparently I’m the stupid one as she’s delightedly reminded me.
But fk it. Screwing up doesn’t really matter if someone else is always going to swallow the financial cost of it. And yet again, that individual is me Now with an extra van off of the road, it will be impossible to complete my workload within the allotted timescales, meaning that I’ll be losing out on my bonuses during the busiest and most lucrative time of the year. But once again, I’m the stupid one apparently.
I’m doing a hell of a lot of Fraser Plus by House of Fraser. From what I’m told, you barely need anything more than pulse to pass their credit checks. I’d estimate that I have 40-50 of these of the van each day, which suggests to me that there’s a very large amount of people paying for their clothing non the never-never at nearly 40% APR. That’s quite an alarming statistic.

I didn’t know that. But I rarely go to McDonalds. Bad luck with the van.
Hang on….. People can pay-in-3 for a Big Mac?
The worlds gone mad.
Govt pushed corp tax up by 31.6%. Insolvencies at tax payment time reise 18%.

For many construction firms, worse is yet to come. This is forecast to be the worst period since 2009. There will be fewer firms and owrkers to build the fabled 300,000 new homes a year.

I am guilty of this too.
Sometimes if I'm working from home with a busy non stop day and need something, it is just easier to order a coffee or a packet of crisps or whatever from deliveroo.
The cost is worth not having to get changed, drive somewhere, talk to people, drive back etc.
It's a brave new world!

Guy I know is currently on his 4th overseas holiday this year with his wife, yet they use a food bank every week.
Blimey, that's got to be worth a phone call to the national papers....Essarell said:

Blimey, that's got to be worth a phone call to the national papers....We had to vary the times that we filled it up because a retired GP would take huge amounts, more than they could ever use. He would even get violent, pushing others out of the way.
Clearly a mental health issue.
Thankfully, sitting outside for hours, waiting for our deliveries, has changed his behaviour.

Yes, this is analogous to the hoarding of arse wipe in the pandemic. Both my in laws and twit of a brother in law still have excess supplies of various commodities they panic bought. It is a mental health thing, but it is also tantamount to gluttony. We had to vary the times that we filled it up because a retired GP would take huge amounts, more than they could ever use. Unfortunately, food banks are little different to any other aspect of the welfare state. If everyone took according to need and with consideration (i.e. not failing to turn up to hospital appointments) there would be more for the rest who needed it and less cost to those paying.
I do see food banks as being a doble edged sword. Almost a self fulfilling service.

Community Fridges reduce waste by giving out food which would otherwise be binned by supermarkets and shops. Unfortunately, food banks are little different to any other aspect of the welfare state. They are usually open to all, not based on need, leaving Food Banks to concentrate on that, which helps a bit.
