With fast food franchisees seeing a 9% decrease last year, now is not the time to get into that game.
Fast food consumers are fast twigging it that is is seriously unhealthy.
The McDonalds salad is a desperate attempt at countering that.
For McDonalds the damage to their reputation is terminal, the pink slime, the ammonia, as highlighted by Jamie, the jig is up for McDs.
not really covering themselves in glory there either! Fast food consumers are fast twigging it that is is seriously unhealthy.

A blip in the food consumption will affect the franchise owners profits, but big M still owns all the buildings and collects the rent regardless. Selling burgers is just a way to fund them buying more prime real estate in all the top cities of the world

whatever you think about the food, you've got to admire the business model ...

Unfortunately it doesn't say which particular restaurants are the most profitable. Presumably the tiny drive through in Cumbria on a hill can be grouped in with the site next to kings cross station. http://www.theguardian.com/business/2015/oct/15/mc...

Spoke to my friend who is the Ops Mgr for a franchisee with a few outlets. He said 9 months unpaid training and guesstimated investment in the low to mid hundreds of thousands. Typically start with a high street outlet as they are smaller. Drive throughs are generally much much more lucrative but you wont get one initially. Their latest one is 1 mile away from another so plenty of room for more outlets.

This, McDonalds are going to end up like Blockbuster video (OK, not quite, but the same point being made). They need to take the opp. to seriously diversify, or spin parts of the business of, before it's too late. They have made some very weak attempts at McCafe, and putting a couple of token salads on the menu, not good enough IMO. Their food has been the exact same forever, and eating habits have started to change recently, I can see McDonalds outlets in 'nicer' towns start to become a lot quieter in the near future.Fast food consumers are fast twigging it that is is seriously unhealthy.

They might be still growing, but I imagine the rate of growth has been slowing for a few years now.http://www.theguardian.com/business/2015/oct/15/mc...

It was in the papers the other week, they are about to start deliver-to-table service at a couple of hundred UK branches, and they've got their new double thick prestige burger range just coming out.Any franchise worth having these days will require multiple sites per franchisee as has long been the way with McDonald's and dominoes you can't just have "a" franchise.
The smart money would be jumping in early on a new franchise that has good potential. Our local subway opened over 20 years ago. That's the way to do it!

They used to bring food to your table when I was a kid, I still see them do it occasionally for people with kids, etc. Don't think that's much of a selling point though.Menu needs an overhall, it's alright for kids, but not much more than a snack for grown ups.
I haven't eaten a McDogs in years. Every few years I eat one to remind myself why that is.
BUT
That's irrelevant. Have you seen how busy they are? Amazing. Obviously their clientele don't give a st about how healthy it is or anything else. They just crave the hit of sugar, fat and salt that is a McDog.
Clearly it is good business selling it to them...
