Out of interest, what you think a client who was pissed off by a data breach could do, above and beyond just making a complaint to the ICO?

What I'd like to know is how a pi55ed off punter goes about starting a dispute. Form on ICO website? email address that takes complaints etc? Is it procedural, ie are there already forms in place to be completed or you just send an open ended email/letter. Or you just call them up? Is there a standard procedure in place as yet?

Manchester number been ringing me for days, answered earlier and it was PPI cold call stating my name and address, they obviously had my number too. I quoted GDPR and they couldn't get off the phone quick enough

Yes - that's the whole point of spam, to dupe people.

Just had a look at my spam.

Can't say the 'sales' emails have stopped or even decreased.

I have a few where they begged for me to remain on the mailing list, which I didn't. but they have continued anyway.

Aye - this is how will be in the brave new world of GDPR.

Sender - I am contacting you to see if it's OK to contact you.

Recipient - No it's bloody not - and here's a letter from my solicitor so foxtrot oscar.

Not everything is worth threatening legal action over, and to be honest just makes the writer appear a bit of a dick.

A spam filter does the job nicely.

Those who love excessive bureaucracy never think life is too short to make life difficult for everybody. It's the nature of the beast.

Yesterday evening (yes Saturday night) I was sent a work email with a 45 page policy document attached and a form to sign and return tomorrow (Monday) saying I have read, understand and will abide by the policy.

Maybe by Wednesday if they are lucky,

A Data Protection Policy? Has it got lots of pictures? smile

I looked at a few and they were typically 8 pages, even from public bodies.

By the time I'd excluded all the stuff I don't think we need (we're B2B, no special category data etc) I had to pad it out to make it three pages.

No... no pictures, I think I spotted a flowchart on one page though laugh

Best bit is I have to get the whole catering team, including all the dinner ladies who also have to have their own copy, to sign as well.

Typical local authority stuff.

Sure, but I think we're talking about a Data Protection policy - usually an internal document - just now.

Do we need excessive bureaucracy to make people do the "right thing"? My expectation is that too many small businesses will get caught in this whilst the big guys and the really big offenders will just bat it off because they have the resources to do so

That's what happens in the world of tax - all the time.

That looks like natural, everyday type of spam? I get dozens everyday and have done since I owned an email address.

Oh right. Not seen that kind of spam in years! Have a good spam filter.
