Started trading on the side 4 years ago using www.advfn.com and have never looked back. Was in the loop untill a few years ago and so would get first class info from a lot of the old boys, but it's getting increasingly difficult to stay in the black on a daily basis.

I'm up 9% on the year (was 24% untill August time) but starting to suffer losses more and more of late.

What are your experiences of late? Up or down for the year?
Similar story.. up until september, now down smalls... but i am long a few cable futures running which will bring me back up by the end of the quarter

That's brilliant, you should bring that kind of talk to the Mornington Crescent thread.

Time to adjust your strategy, I guess. Are you mainly relying on news/tips?

In my experience people who make money from trading are busy making money from trading, not talking about it on internet forums. I've been spread betting for about four years, make very modest gains and would love to find out how to improve my profits. I thought I'd find something useful on the Trade2Win forums but there's nothing but a load of people talking about new systems they've invented, or bought, which they reckon they'll clean-up with, and other people who can program the charting software backtesting said systems only to conclude that they don't work or that they do, but suffer too much drawdown to be worth the effort. People who make millions trading must learn to do it somewhere.. somehow. Finding out what that somehow and where that somewhere is, would appear to be the key.

I always wonder about the likes of Darren Winters and Vince Stanzione. If they are so good, why do they have their fingers in so many business pies?

I've always wondered the same. Vince Stanzione sells all sorts of trading stuff on the internet. Why? If I had methods capable of performing the miracles that he claims his do I wouldn't be wasting my time making e-Books and CD ROMs, I'd be sat on a big yacht in the Bahamas, making the occasional million on my laptop, and sipping Champagne while toned 18 yr old babes in bikinis rubbed oil into me... and each other.

I was thinking exactly the same thing! I was going to ask "is this the same sort of thing as MC?"

I've started a fantasy portfolio knowing absolutely nothing about finance, and it's quite fun in a sort of foreign and baffling way. I wouldn't go into it for real with such scant knowledge, but it shows you how people can make such a lot of money just by pushing it around and being wise/lucky.

I tried to sell Saturday to some wealthy Arabs once but they simply told me that they knew I didn't own it and therefore had no right to demand money for it.

Lost my enthusiasm for day trading after that

It's ok Im going

I actually read an article the other day about a guy who had actually sold sand to arabs - It was from Florida and he was importing it for the bunker sand they use for the golf courses built in the desert...

I'm not a day trader, as I haven't got the time to fully focus on it. Up around 40% on the year. I'm currently just going to stick with a few things that i'm holding and see what happens.

I'm very tempted to get back into some spread betting in FX (I noticed GBP/JPY and think that it looks very interesting with the possible rewards), possibly some commodities and indices but will see depending how much time I have.

Well it's easily done, but avoid the try mkt... is going south and the back end vol is coming off too... so unless you want to take a gamble and be long the riskies !! haha

otherwise think short date 10 delta flies and always try and stay on the highside of any USDHUF straddles.... hope that helps

I think Darren Winters is spending about 16 hours standing and talking to passers-by at Invest 07 this weekend. Certainly not something I'd do if I was raking in the cash on my yacht!

Is there a section on Trade2Win where some useful discussion actually takes place? All I see when I go on there is a lot of dead horses and a lot of flogging.
