I'm after a bit of advice, or maybe just an opinion. My wife has some company shares, Unilever PLC, that she bought in a company sharesave scheme 5 years ago, the option price at the time was about 1350p. The share price today is 1936p, we are are going to need to sell the shares to pay some forthcoming expences, is the current price a good one or would it be worth waiting a while?

I would bother trying to see into the future.

If you need the money and want to avoid peaks and troughs then sell in tranches, not all in one go.

A share like Unilever is unlikely to go up dramatically, but any share can fall dramatically.

My father, who made a bob or two from shares always told me "It's never too soon to make a profit".
Advice I've only ever ignored to my own regret....

I like this.

The alternative is to watch it fall, think "it'll climb back", watch it fall a bit more, think "I'll sell it when it's back to what it was when it first fell", watch it fall further, think "maybe I should sell them now", watch it fall into loss, think "bugger, might as well hold", watch it fall into bigger loss, think "oh shit...", watch it fall into even bigger loss, think "ok I had better sell now"...

expenses... If you need the money, sell! Watch out for CGT limit though.

I'd try not to sell all - but it depends on how much you need/want.

Seems like they're at a historical high - for about the past 12 years.. Don't think you can complain about selling them now!
