I need some help on a payment problem at work…
About a month ago, I changed jobs, within the company to a telephonist. A general telephonist who has started at this position (ie joined the company as a telephonist) starts on a wage of £x.30ph, after 3 months and a test it goes up to £x.60ph and after 6 months it goes to £x.80ph. However, I worked for the company before becoming a telephonist. I received a letter outlining my pay, stating that after 3 months of satisfactory service within the company I will be on a pay of £x.60ph and after 6 months of satisfactory service it will be £x.80ph. NO where in this letter does it mention that I have to be a telephonist for 3 / 6 months. It just says satisfactory service within the company. Now, when I joined I was told that I would ‘skip’ these pay leaps and go straight to top pay.
So, last pay packet, I worked it out that I was getting £x.30ph and thought it should have been £x.80ph, so went to the people in staff control, and they said no, you should be getting £x.30. I wasn’t very pleased but accepted it, later I asked the ex staff control manager and he said it was £x.80, so he said he would change it, and apparently did. Later I needed to phone staff control about something else, and they thought I didn’t receive my bonus, which I explained I did, but the problem was to do with Per hour pay, not bonus. This person in staff control said I should get £x.30ph.

I haven’t spoken to staff control or anyone else about this yet, but I’m thinking of complaining, cos there really pissing me off, and the letter doesn’t say anything about 3 months as a telephonist, so I might raise this point to someone/ union (if there is one)

If anyone know where I stand then I would appreciate any advice or suggestions.

Thanks,
Alan

PS. Anyone know of any part time jobs in Leeds?

No there wasn't really. Just a letter stating I had changed jobs and basic outline, but not really terms and conditions.

s3_mcd said: best thing to do is approach citizens advice bureau. Employment law is a mine field these days BUT its on you side as an employee (moving into europe has some plus points!!). without knowing specific details and the company you are working for i cant be sure however, in moving roles you do need a change in t&c's unless its already covered in your existing contract of employment. if you have been verbally offered something it is legally binding, however hard to prove....
if you want to email me directly, more than happy to provide specific advice.
