Ted yep, we got the same mail and also nothing since, mailed them late last night but just got an ETA, I am assuming it is the DNS that has been hacked and not their actual systems.

Would a DNS hack leave the homepage standing yet the email and payment systems down ?

Yes it could, as the payment and admin systems are on seperate sub-domains.

What is really pissing me off is that there has been absolutely no word from them since lunchtime yesterday, nothing, not a dicky, diddly squat, WTF are they playing at

The internet payment system Worldpay is under hack attack from unknown assailants, hitting hundreds of online retailers around the world.
The company's payment and administration networks have been flooded with computer-generated requests, clogging the system and slowing transactions - also known as a "denial-of-service" attack.

Worldpay is owned by the Royal Bank of Scotland Group. Its clients include Vodafone and Sony Music Entertainment, but many small online retailers as well.

The company said the bombardment started early on Tuesday and is still going on.

The security of the payments and administration system had not been compromised, said Carolyn McAdam, a Worldpay spokesperson.

"The system has been flooded on a massive scale," Ms McAdam told BBC News Online. "We have been working flat out and have been since the incident. We hope to have it sorted out in the course of today."

Ah good old DOS attack I wish I could get hold of the tosser that set this up and bang his head against worldpay for a bit, they both might learn something then

Both our payment and administration systems remain unobtainable following a
coordinated effort by a third party. The payment and administration systems
are actually working, safe and secure, but the networks around them have
been flooded with requests on a massive computer generated scale causing
service denials. Please accept our apologies and an official email
containing all details will be sent to day as soon as possible.

Yep I just got the same mail, at least they have decided to communicate. does not look like this will be over very quickly though

Worldpay went down around midday yesterday, it all depends on how and where the attack is being directed

Just recieved this from Netbanx - if they had sent it last night they would probably have had my money by now.

=====================================================
Hi

You will be aware that Worldpay have been subject to a Denial of Service
attack, which prevents processing of payments. To help you overcome this
problem we would like to offer you an emergency service that will allow your
business to start taking payments as quickly as possible. My team is ready
to work as quickly as possible to effect a speedy transition for you – both
commercially and technically.

Commercially it will require a new merchant number but we are ready to
provide a merchant number on a Same-Day basis. Technically it will require
your site to direct payments to our service and will therefore involve some
changes. Again the technical team are primed to respond as quickly as
possible to ensure that you are integrated to our system as quickly as
possible.

It may be some time before Worldpay can resolve their situation and we wish
them well. At that point we are not putting an obligation on you to stay
with us – although of course we hope that will be the case – but trust that
you will see the benefit of maintaining your account and integration with
NetBanx to act as a contingency for this or similar instances in the future.

In case you would you to take up our offer I have attached an application
for our Bureau Service. This will allow us to organise both the merchant
facility and our service at the same time. By completing, signing and
faxing this to us on 01223 847176 we can start helping you on it’s receipt.
Please note that we will require the original documents and that a special
one-off charge of £150 will apply to set this up.

If you have any questions then please do not hesitate to contact me, on
01223 845594 or by reply email.

Yours sincerely

Cheryl Taylor

Our hosting company had a DOS attack earlier in the year. It takes considerable effort and coordination between different equipment manufacturers, network providers and people to filter out the additional traffic at a point where it doesn't start affecting service.

And DDOS (distributed denial of service) attacks are usually from poeple's home machines which don't have firewall/anti-virus software, and they don't even know they're doing it...

Yep, it takes a fair bit of planning etc to set one of these up, I just wonder who they pissed off enough to do it
