On the one hand, this is the coolest thing ever and on the other it’s kind of stupid. 
Some of the features look amazing - I’d imagine watching porn a film through it would be pretty incredible.
Does look a bit dystopian though… can imagine families shortly all walking around their homes with these things welded to their faces 24/7. Also, $3,499 is a lot, especially when this first gen one will just be waiting for the app developers to get stuff out for it. Interesting times ahead though, that’s for sure.

It'll be interesting to see whether VR and its offshoots ever truly gets over.
This looks slicker than most but it's still a faff and it's not going to be 'the one'. And that's before pricing.
The tech spec is impressive though.
It'll have to be the size and weight of Oakleys that you can whip on and off, and even then it might not do the trick. It may be that people would rather something that you couldn't even tell was VR/AR from the outside.

Like the excellent book Electric State. As with most things Apple releases, this will be the catalyst for people to take VR seriously in areas outside of gaming and the odd bit of visual design. Much better offering than the competitors (cough meta cough) and it might stand a chance with the right apps.
If they've managed to make this light enough to wear for a long time, and for sweat / condensation to not be an issue then they might be onto a winner for productivity work.
I have a Valve index connected to a 3090 GFX card and playing Half Life Alyx on it is amazing, but I could only manage 45 mins at a time.

Yep, same experience with one of the Oculus Rift devices. Just felt rough all day. However, with more recent ones they seem to have fixed that problem as far as I can tell.Having said that, $3500, and Apple ecosystem means I'm not part of the target audience for this.
Yes, it's a bit expensive, and no doubt version 2 will be a significant improvement, but I think today is the day that will be looked back on as the day the VR world changed.
The integration of the visuals into the surroundings is biblical. The mix of hardware, software and the colossal weight of Apple is unmatched.
I've lost a lot of faith in Apple the last few years, but in time I really believe this will be an 'iPhone' moment.

I'll definitely be buying this 'for the business' and paying no BIK either!
I remember when the first retina screens came out with sharp text and smooth scrolling, they just destroyed normal screens for me. I could never use them again, at any cheapness. I think this is going to be the same. I love the quest 2 but the pixalated text kills the experience. Apparently text on this thing is sharp and you can't see the pixels.
After retina screens came out, I've never had much reason to upgrade my mac kit. This is the excuse I've been waiting for.
I think VR gaming is a bit of a gimmick, and I still regularly play VR games a couple of hours a week. The real future of VR is computing imo. With gaming as an add on.
Can't wait, shame it's not out in UK 2024 for another year. Might have to import one if poss. Presuming it works without cloud id etc. Which it may well not.
