I’m happy enough with my Mk1 deck but this news has wetted my appetite for a full on Mk2 ! At least we now know the next gen will be OLED !

Still use mine a few times a week, great bit of kit. When is the new one out?

Think it’s out now but more of a mid life refresh with just a very small performance increase according to Digital Foundry it has loads of other little tweaks and upgrades.

Still the screen looks epic but I’ll be waiting for the Mk2 with more grunt.

Right im off to carry on playing Titanfall on my poor old lcd Deck biggrin

Edit to say looks like November 16th

Looks bloody great...

Fantastic OLED panel, slightly larger screen, 25% bigger battery, larger disk capacity at same price points, faster RAM, die shrink on chipset (less heat, lower power consumption) .. even improved case.

It's a brilliant 'refresh'. Probably means that the Next Gen deck is at least 1 year away, maybe even 2 though.

Yeah looks like they have done a good job still not worth it for me though.

Me neither but I can appreciate what they did and they are offering a fantastic deal for new buyers. Makes me optimistic for what they will do for the real v2.0

Not sure why Valve improved so many other things but neglected the CPU, if they had updated it so it matched or surpassed the Rog or Legion then I'd probably have updated from the original.

I’m very tempted by one of these, what are the best games. Driving games or 1st person shooters?

I have a Steamdeck, and while I have played Boltgun on it, FPS's are not really its forte IMO. Platformers, RPGs, driving games etc are much much better.

I think Hollow Knight is excellent on it, as is Wreckfest. If you haven't played Lego Star Wars, it works really well. You can play F1 2023 on it, Cyberpunk etc as well. The controls really do not lend themselves to an FPS, as it is still technically a PC you do not get the aim assist stuff you do on a console.

They've done the owners of the original model a big favour as the 'new' deck has basically the same compute power, meaning that they have extended the life of the platform. By keeping sales strong - which they will with this refresh - there will be even more incentive for games devs to target playability on the Steamdeck with current CPU/GPU specs, so the deck will be usable for longer.

So, if you already have a Steamdeck you can feel OK keeping it and getting more life out of it. When they do a v2 model with better APU down the line (probably 1 year or more away) you'll have got your money's worth on your original purchase if you decide you want to upgrade.

As for the competitors with more powerful APUs, they just aren't anything like a match for the Steamdeck overall. They are pretty niche devices with lots of compromises. The current Steamdeck, even with less compute power is simply in a different league for overall user experience and a better choice for most people. The refresh absolutely blows the competition away IMO.

Anyone going to grab one tomorrow ?

I’m going to have to make sure I’m well away from the iPad etc at 6pm …

I really am happy with my current deck especially now we can alter the colour settings ….

Don’t need the screen .. Don’t need the battery.. Don’t need the upgrades …. Repeat….

Go for the 512 how much for my current deck … NOOOO STOP !

I dont see the value so no. But if I did not have a deck I would 100% go with the OLED.

These are the kind of sensible statements I need to hear.

Well, I ordered one to go with my OLED Switch, mostly just out of curiosity. Shop went down at 18:00, it's wild to me how companies still can't handle the demand they KNOW they're going to get.

Anyway. I'll update when I get it! Hopefully next week.
