I don't want to know how much things are in the U.S of A whenever I search for stuff... How do I set Google UK as the default search?
Just tried and got an epic fail.
Do you mean your homepage or by using your search function on your browser?Just tried and got an epic fail.
I would recommend downloading the google toolbar too. It's quite good.

Bring up the google search page, select the UK radio button, click on search (leave the text field blank). This brings up a new search page with UK selected. Make that your default search page.
That won't work - when you next search for something it'll default back. The only way is to click the radio button. If you use Google UK as the home page it tends to favour UK anyway.

Using regedit start-run-regedit
Navigate to this key:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\SearchScopes\
Search the key using find (CTRL+F) and look for google.com
Replace the suffix with .co.uk and it should then use the google UK search from the small window in the top of IE7
It might be easier to just search for this key though:
Name: URL type: REG_SZ data: h ttp://www.google.com/search?q={searchTerms}&rls=com.microsoft:{language}:{referrer:source?}&ie={inputEncoding}&oe={outputEncoding}&sourceid=ie7&rlz=1I7GGIH
I've had to put a space between the h & the ttp in the url, because the forum truncates it.
Hope this helps?

so complicated
goto the site you want to have as homepage
tools, options, use current site as homepage
no need to pratt around with the registry
probably something similar in IE, but using FF
Did you read the whole thread? The OP wants to use the search box in google toolbar, not the default homepage. Even if you set google.co.uk as home page, it still uses google.com in the toolbar until you change some settings.goto the site you want to have as homepage

Siddi's post above is the easiest solution so far.

settings/options/features/search box settings/
use google site drop down box change to google.uk
oops just realised siddie uk, has already said this.

ok
yet another long day on the fun packed underground, seems I did miss read the op's post
so for firefox, goto the search engine bit on the top right
There is the letter G with a button, press the button to reveal "Manage Search Engines"
Mine has a list of possibles, clicking on a different one makes it the default be it google, dogpile etc
there is even a link called "Get more search engines", gosh, wonder what that could do ? will let someone else explore

Ok, this is how you do in on a Mac:
Right-click on the FireFox icon within your Applications folder to open up the Contents folder for FireFox.
Here's the path to the file you need to edit: Applications > FireFox > Contents > MacOS > searchplugins > google.xml
Just open with a simple text editor (TextEdit, TextMate, nano) if you've got it, and change the part of the file that says:
<SearchForm>http://www.google.com/firefox</SearchForm>
to this:
<SearchForm>http://www.google.co.uk/firefox</SearchForm>
That should do it. You could change every instance of google.com to google.co.uk in that XML file to be comprehensive about it.
