but fan still running.

I have googled this but can't find anyone with a similar problem.

The Laptop is completely dead. Was closed last night but on opening this morning nothing, no lights, no screen just the fan can be heard.

Tried pressing the power button for 30 secs and 10 secs but no good.

Any ideas anyone? Cheers.

Well, if it was a dead Toshiba, then you could take it back to a Toshiba shop for a straight replacement, oh no, you can't because there are no Toshiba shops. Or Leveno shops, or HP shops. Staples might send away for repair for you....You could send it back to Dabs.com and wait a few weeks for a replacement....

wink

can you remove the hard drive from the apple and back up using a external hard drive caddy without invalidating your warranty? At least save your data!

The Apple shop should help him do that.

You can on any MacBook. HD removal and memory removal are seen as user operations and so just have a couple of screws holding them in place. Nothing stopping the OP removing the hd at the shop and swapping it straight over.

Sounds like your Hard drive is dead OP, mine fell off my bed, out of warranty i just bought a new hard drive and fitted it.

What you need to do is make an appointment with a tech guy in an apple shop and take it in, they then do everything. ( make an appointment before you go! As they are very busy)

I didn't make an appointment and was facing a 4 hour wait, until i started getting irate. ( when i was still under warranty)

Does Dell , Sony etc offer what Mac do ?

NO !! That is the one reason MAC are good. Walk in with a appointment and they do all they can to fix things. NO OTHER company offer this service.

I would expect a new book and they to do the HD file transfer for you. BE NICE , shouting does not work. The staff are cool and want to help

I like Apple also but in the interests of fairness Dell used to send out replacement parts if you were happy to fit them yourself, not sure if they still do as I only buy apple these days.
