Apple have paid to have their logo added to the #appleevent hashtag through the end of this month. Not clear why they are starting now unless there will be announcements starting soon and running through the month

Apparently I’m getting a free one to test:-

Some must fall for this garbage.

Sounds about right. Looking forward to this latest watch, if I do come back to the Apple ecosystem (and I think that's likely, although lightning is still a point of irritation) it'll be in no small part due to the watch. I just seems better than the other options out there, loads better.

I'm in the same boat, on Android but the apple watch is pulling me back in.

Ideal situation would be the 5 reduced to £200-£250 as I think that does everything I need. No doubt there will be something in the 6 that makes me want that!

The watch is the one thing that I think Apple could still be said to be head and shoulders above the Android ecosystem in.

iPhone? Very nice, but several at least equal Android phones
iPad? Less clear cut, it’s still superior to most Android tablets but there’s a couple that come close
Macs? Again, very nice, but plenty of equally good if not better Windows machines.

But the watch? I can’t think of any Android ecosystem smart watch that comes even close.

Totally agree with this. The Oppo watch is meant to be good and is almost a copy of the Apple watch but I still think that on the app front the Apple watch is miles ahead of wear os.

The battery life remains the thing to put me off the Apple watch. Just checked on latest status, even their Series 5 only claims around 18 hours use.

I have a MyKronos one - works fine for my needs: clearly not as integrated as Apple....but it will last about 10 days using the smart features
When it runs down, if you forgot to charge, it will continue to tell the time with the physical hands for around another 30 days!

Amazed Apple haven't made theirs last longer. I guess people just get used to charging it every day & accept it.

Unless you are sleep tracking then most people would just put on charge with their phone I guess. I'm spoilt like you as I get about 14 days between charges from my Fenix 5 and that's with everything turned on.

I started off with a cheap second hand Series 0 from a mate when he switched to a Series 2. Once that got too old I picked up a cheap Series 2 which I’m still using but it’s starting to show its age now.

In terms of battery life unless I’m tracking an hour or so of exercise a day I can get away with 2-3 days of use before it needs charging again which is fine for me.

Hoping to pick up a second hand Series 4 as I can’t bring myself to ever pay the premium for the latest version

I have a series 4, the battery will do 2 days at a pinch. Mrs BC has a 5 which isn’t quite as good.

My 5 cellular gets to about 50% at the end of a day. If heavy GPS use then 35-40%. IMO its perfectly useable with that level of run time. Thats with the screen always on too, so turn that off and you'll get more out of it.

With regards to battery life in the Apple Watch; I’m surprised no one has tried for a hybrid version; after all in the mechanical watch world we’ve had automatic winding systems for quite some time now.

the power an auto generates is no where near enough to sustain any form of monitoring or notifications that a smart watch has (sadly)

If rumours are to be considered it looks like the apple watch range is about to be split into SE and Pro type variants - the premium money obvs being for the pro
