[benefit of hindsight]I think ordering it to pick up from a store means you get it quicker?[/benefit of hindsight]

Was there an option to pick up from store with the pre-orders? If so, I missed that option.

Not one review yet! Has anyone actually got one today??

I ordered mine on Vodafone (with wifes discount for working for a Barclays - they all use Vodafone company phones).

Deal is:

256gb X in black

£200 upfront
£47.60/mth 24 months
26gb data
unlimited mins/texts

Don't think that's bad considering the phone would cost £1,149 it works out at £8/mth for the plan.

Delivery in 2 weeks.

£49pm.

I'm ok with the increase for the added data, as every other month I would add a 1GB top up anyway, which was about £6.
As you're not bother by having the latest tech you could have got a 12GB sim-only for about £15/month and kept your existing phone...

I'm not 'latest phone' obsessed, I just want to keep trundling along with my phone/tech, and as I commute to London, I had put increased memory as a priority for my upgrade. I wanted to keep lots of content on there etc.

Old Deal:-
o2
iPhone 6S 64GB
5GB data, unlimited everything, 24 months
was £46pm (phone was £130 ish upfront)

Went to CPW on Oxford Street yesterday.

Ordered a Spigen case, and will get it up and running over the weekend!
doesn't seem a great deal, you can buy the phone and a sim only deal for cheaper and you can switch networks halfway through if you want.

I'm on the apple upgrade programme with a 7+ at the moment, if I wanted to upgrade (i'm eligible) how does it work? Do I just reserve the handset online then go collect it when they drop me an email?

I'm assuming that as everything is stored on icloud I just factory reset then phone I have on the day?

Yes!

Collected mine this morning from CPW at 8am and have been playing with it all day. It feels great to hold much more premium than before and very intuitive to use. Face ID works flawlessly. The screen is even sharper than before with great colours. Whole iPhone feels very snappy to use.

Love it, definitely recommended thumbup

Had a little play with my colleagues one today, the screen is weird. Good weird if you know what I mean, after years of having the black bars around the screen it feels large and the lack of home button is odd.

Face ID does work nicely though.

I'll be honest, I got mine and it went straight on eBay & Gumtree. I have another order in with Apple which is due in after next week. Wasn't planning to, but when you see people paying £1600+, I can wait.

Had a good play tonight

Bad things:

the new "task manager" is a bit clunky, not being able to hold the home button and close apps quickly, you have to slow swipe then hold the apps to get a "close" button
Mounted in the car its a pain to get it to wake as the face ID cant see you (mine is located centrally in dash) so you have to use power button and then the passcode to open the phone to then start waze etc...
It runs very hot, while loading all my apps the thing is rather warm biggrin
Luckily I have put it in a case and dropped it already (no damage) but would have been a show stopper I think if I hadnt haha, getting out car carrying the X and my now retired 7+.
A lot of apps dont take into account the new screen and so end up actually smaller than they would be on a 7+ type screen.
Lost the % for the battery... only way you can show this is in the mini control panel you drag from top left frown

Good things:

Smaller than a 7+ (which I didnt actually realise in all the hype!)
Screen is lovely really nice and once app devs start to exploit it, it will be really good.
Cameras appear to be better than my 7+
Face ID is cool and not had any problem with it so far
Home button is already intuitive when using the X in your hand
Seems a lot faster than my 7+
Internal speaker appears to be better quality
It really is a lovely thing and does feel like a jump forward from the 7+
Was a good chance to delete a shed load of apps I never use and free up 10's of GB of storage

Can't comment on the supposed longer battery length as yet as the thing has been downloading all night.
Not played with the emojji stuff yet
Pity it doesnt come with a set of ear pods biggrin
Not tried the wireless charging yet but I hear its very slow, and may be difficult due to the steel plate I use in the case for my car mount magnet.

Will update as and when I use it more

Being tricky to unlock whilst driving surely isn’t something you want to shout about?

Tried FaceID last night in pitch black, still works! I’m using it for a lot of my apps and passwords etc, love it!

Watched a few of the 4K demos last night and the screen is very good, the colours are incredible.

It’s worth mentioning that since I upgraded to ios11 on my 6S+ it would destroy it’s battery in a few hours. I’ve been playing with this for the last hour whilst it’s still downloading apps and music etc and it’s used 3%... so that’s a good sign!

With Sky, I believe you don't own the phone at the end of the 24 month period - so you're effectively just leasing it. frown

Had this offer from Sky Mobile (I didn't even realise they did mobiles), think its only available to Sky customers?

iPhone X 64GB
10GB Data
Unlimited Calls/Text
24 month plan
£0.00 upfront
£57 per month
That seems impossible cheap? The quivalent of about a £10 per month contract on top of the phone.

You need to go to the Apple Store app click on Apple upgrade programme, check my status and place an order. They will give you an estimated date for collection which is going to be around mid December.

Mate at work picked his X up at lunch yesterday.
I had been planning to buy one but managed to talk myself into holding off so I hadn’t put in a reservation. Maybe early in the new year.
Having had a play with his, and watched him use it... I’m not sure I’ll bother. The screen is nice to look at as its a novelty right now, but otherwise... it’s the same as it ever was... IOS11 being on my existing 6 doesn’t help because everything even looks the same as on my current phone.

Odd situation we’re in, where I know I want a new iPhone, but I am not excited enough about the new iPhone to buy it - which has been the case for now 3 generations. 6S the 3Dtouch was pointless so when that phone got damaged I went down to a 6 to save money. 7 I hated the removal of the headphone jack and there were no particular new features I was bothered about. 8 seems to just be 7 again and X has the screen but I notice that besides looking nice it doesn’t actually do anything much I want, which certainly doesn’t feel worth a thousand pounds.
Maybe when my current phone breaks and needs replacing anyway, but I don’t feel the lust for it and I really should.

When I was stood in the queue, Apple offered me 2. They only had black and the wife wants a white but I thought I'll chance it and can always fund AppleCare if she isn't interested. Priced the second up at a fairly reasonable £1350 and have had plenty of grief from trolls slating me for trying it on and an offer for £1000 as I'm typing this. I've offered it to friends at rrp otherwise will just return to the store.

£1150 and although I usually don't seriously considering AppleCare this time round at an extra £200

Same logic as the car. Keep it for longer to manage the depreciation. Going from 2 to 3 years before changing phones now.

Setup from my previous phone was simple as.
Really starting to like the display and the notch has not bothered me yet which I am quite surprised about.
FaceID setup very easily and has worked well so far although I can see situations such as when the phone is on the desk where FaceID requires you to pick up the phone rather than just resting your finger.
It's obviously going to be quicker than my previous phone with the latest hardware

Still to try camera, 4K, AR

AppleCare isn’t worth it. It’s £29 for a new screen if you have it or £279 without it. So you are spending £200 on the basis you may one day save £50 if you have to replace a screen one day. I’d rather keep the £200 now and spend the extra £50 if it happens. I’ve never broken an iPhone screen in ten years.

If you break the screen twice you’re in the money but how likely is that going to be?

Hi sorry meant when I about to set off and turn on the navigation. Need to remember to do this before attaching to dash. It’s a minor niggle

I’ve been glued to it for most of the morning getting used to the new gestures etc.

Just used 50% battery which I feel is quite impressive.

I’m pretty much completely used to losing the home button now.

Notch at the top of the screen isn’t bothering me, some of the videos on YouTube about it annoy me!

The notch is here to stay now after the reception to the X in terms of sales, Apple shares, etc. If anything I can see next year's phone being even more expensive. The public have shown that £999+ is not only palatable, it's business as usual.
