I use a TP-Link MR400 - £86 from Amazon

I may have a spare one at mate's rates if I can find it! We've just moved house and everything is all boxed up somewhere
Cheers smile Clicked on your Amazon link and have stumbled across a cheaper Tenda unit at £65. Might consider this option if I can find a decent +10G data only sim that works for under £20.

Has anyone managed to find a Huwaei B818 at a sensible price? I’d quite like to upgrade from the B535 but prices have gone crazy. The closest I can find is the B628 which while still an upgrade, isn’t as good for EE I’m told.

Slowly loosing the plot with three. Since Thursday afternoon my router MikroTik LHG LTE6 has been loosing internet connection. The 4g signal remains and doesn’t drop out. However I can’t ping the likes off 8.8.8.8 or connect to anything. This happens for about 2 to 5 mins every 20mins. I’ve reset it a few times and even have it moved onto a different mast in the opposite direction. Three network status shows no issues. Anyone else having issues?

Does the router think it is connected to Three? Are there any ping or traceroure tools on the router? Just to eliminate LAN side issues as opposed to WAN.

Non three related question but hoping the router experts may know where I am going wrong.

Have a 4G EE router with EE sim and streaming sites like netflix over the tv, the signal/link will always drop out after 10/15 minutes. If streaming over laptop, no issues and speed seems fine. Likewise, if I use my mobile as a hotspot, I can stream from the tv with no issues so it would seem there is something in the router settings that is causing it to drop out every now and again.

I've tried changing IVP4/6 settings with no success and EE support don't seem to have any ideas. Am I likely to solve the issue with a different/upgraded router or are there other settings I should be looking at?

What sort of router do you have? Where is it positioned? What sort of speeds are you getting? When the streaming stops, are you still able to connect with anything else internet related?

I have a Huawei router....one thing I found was that it was set to "4G and 3G" and I could see from the interface that it was flicking over to 3G now and then I assume when the signal strength dropped. That obviously impacts speeds. I've had the router set to 4G only since then, and it's been fine. I'm guessing that the thresholds used for flicking between 4G and 3G were way too conservative.

It might be worth running something like ookla speedtest to get relative results to see what might be happening. If it's repeatable, at least you can test smile

I recently swapped my 4G EE router to a Huawei B818 and the speed went up instantly!
Same sim, same location. Just a much better router

Just bought a Three 12GB data only sim for £35(!), which apparently lasts up to 12 months.
This would be paired to the Tenda 4G Gigabit modem or £64.

Hopefully this would be enough to run IP cameras at remote site for 3 months or so.

To anyone looking for temporary broadband solution, definitely recommend this combo!
Plug n play, no activation needed. 12GB lasts 1 year.
The Tenda modem is brilliant, super easy setup and so many options in terms of configuration.
Very good WiFi signal and seem to receive good 3/4G signal too.
Bonus is that it even received SMS messages so I can register My3 account.

Hi all,
Would anyone have any recommendations for upgrading our Huawei 4G setup? We’re currently using this for working from home:

It’s fine but we need to move location soon and I’m not sure it will be up to job, are there any out-of-the-box 4G routers that I can swap it for? And, would it make any difference to it’s reception and wife range?

I don’t mind buying an external antenna but of course they aren’t compatible with this router…

Thanks all smile

1) Read the thread
2) Buy a Huawei B818

Or do them the opposite way round biggrin

External aerials have mixed results. More often than not they yield nothing.

There are a few B818s on eBay at the moment.

The B818 has been really tricky to source, so have opted for the B628 instead - seems to look very decent and should fulfil our needs. We’re getting an occasional 50mb in our best location with the small portable Huawei box, so speed shouldn’t really be an issue, but making use of it beyond the range/expandability of the tiny box is really the issue, hence the 628.

I’ll report back on progress when it’s up and running. Probably not the end of the journey as I’m keen on getting our office Wi-Fi up and running which is a fair distance from the best reception point of the current Huawei box - and across a 2 foot thick barn wall….

Thanks for the inputs, appreciated!

B628 up and running and working well - Wi-Fi range is so much better than the portable box thing smile

Unfortunately my timing isn’t great as the 3 mast is undergoing some work which is affecting the speed/traffic. There’s lots of congestion as I’m getting around 10 down and 30 up biggrin

Hopefully some better stats/updates over the coming weeks.

Update for those following the thread.

Seems like 3 have completed the I’ll-timed mast works today, as speeds have gone up. By quite a bit!

There’s still some variation but we’ve gone from a 20ish mb with the B628 earlier today, (port a box pictured above a bit less speed same location) to around 100mb - huge improvement, it’s peaked at 130mb at one point around 6pm. So, pretty pleased. The signal strength indicator on the app says it’s in a great spot - although we have another window further along that got better speeds with our old portable box, but there’s no power socket there… pretty curious though as to what it would get!

Anyway, pretty happy with those speeds and what seems like a very consistent 48-58 ms ping.

I’ve just ordered another Huawei router to expand the network, hopefully this is pretty straightforward - £25 on Amazon seemed worth a punt. (AX3000 model)

Which router am I likely to receive if I order from Three online? Are they still supplying Huawei’s?

Glad it's going well. Two questions.

1, Are those speeds 4G?
2, What signal strength app?

Thnx.
