The notch is here to stay now after the reception to the X in terms of sales, Apple shares, etc. If anything I can see next year's phone being even more expensive. The public have shown that £999+ is not only palatable, it's business as usual.
It is though isn’t it?I can think of numerous items purchased that are in that price bracket that I use considerably less than my phone.

True, but in the context of stuff like Galaxy S8, which costs almost half as much, it still feels excessive. Where do you draw the line? If you use it every day, multiple times a day (as I do mine too) then any amount of money is ok?I can think of numerous items purchased that are in that price bracket that I use considerably less than my phone.
I had a play with an X yesterday and am ordering an 8+ to replace my still perfectly usable but up for a free upgrade 6+ instead of an X.
Prefer the full screen without the notch, longer battery life and TouchID.
Hopefully next time around they’ll incorporate TouchID under the screen and make a + model.

Like anything, it’s only worth what someone is willing to pay... when will limited numbered Porkers stop selling for double retail?

I see this as a Audi vs Skoda debate to be honest.
That's just taking the piss and you know it.It's Mercedes vs BMW, where one is just priced significantly less.
Whatever your preference, both are great devices. The camera is a toss up, the X has caught up in screen (the Samsung screen is years ahead over the iPhone 6/7/8) and again, software is a preference.

What was it about the Galaxy S8 that felt cheap to you? Genuinely curious.Like anything, it’s only worth what someone is willing to pay... when will limited numbered Porkers stop selling for double retail?
Also, your comparison to limited edition Porsches would be infinitely more accurate if Apple only produced 500 iPhone Xs.

I don't see why the touch ID can't be on the side of the device. would be perfect under the volume buttons and could use it as the home button as well.Prefer the full screen without the notch, longer battery life and TouchID.

There’s a separate thread running about the X. Any chance of keeping to the 8 here?p1stonhead said:
This thread was only called the 8 because it was the next number expected. No one knew the X was coming. Theyre both still the new iPhone which is what this thread is about.
OK. So what is this thread about then?https://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&...

Ok, maybe a tad harsh, but still, IMO there’s no doubting that the Apple product feels more premium. It's Mercedes vs BMW, where one is just priced significantly less.

Tomorrow I’ll grab my colleagues S8 and have a proper comparison with the X. When he got it I had the 6s+ and I remember not liking the plasticy feel of it and that it felt too light. Screen was incredible. Also, your comparison to limited edition Porsches would be infinitely more accurate if Apple only produced 500 iPhone Xs.

Because...?A lot of people say 'more premium' but I've never really been sure what that actually means and nobody ever seems to be able to substantiate it. Whatever the flagship from whatever the manufacturer, they're all pretty much the same recipe of glass and steel/aluminium and they're all manufactured for perfect fit and finish. The iPhone X and the Plus models may weigh more than the competition but, as Apple keep telling us, lighter is better.
If I had to guess, I'd go with 'more premium' being entirely in the mind of the buyer. I'm sure there are Galaxy owners who believe their devices are 'more premium' and have bought into it, just as their are Apple device owners who think likewise. I just don't think it's a real thing.
