Flickr, 1tb free. You can keep images private on there as well.

Personally I avoid google as their t+c are a bit off putting.
Ta, I've opened an account and uploaded a few pics to test.

How to I access the code to embed to the likes of PH please?
Select image so it is the only one on the screen with this in the bottom right

Little fold out to the right arrow, click that. You get a few share options, one has bbcode. Select the right size as well or it will be too big, not that it seems to matter.
Copy and past that into a reply, thus. Quote mine to see the code.

I've done this but I'm really struggling with the app. It doesn't seem all that simple to upload into the correct folders and then get the image code. I'm sure it's simple once you know how but I'm getting quite frustrated with it.
See my reply above for posting pics.

Over time I have created my own "Albums" on Flickr. It is quite deep in what you can do with it and it does seem a fudge of old and new.

For example, on the top strap, top left next to "Flickr" on the main page, hover over "You" then scroll down to "organise" and there is a whole other raft of organising stuff. Batch options as well. Just ask, sure there are many that can answer.

Edit. Careful as well with metadata. If you do not want it seen then strip it off first. Unless someone knows how to manage that in Flickr?

I don't know if it's a quirk of using the app on an iPhone but it only gives me the option of saving the image onto my phone, copying the URL, setting it as a cover photo or pasting the URL into Facebook/Instagram etc.

I veered away from the app when an early encounter with Flickr on the go slurped so much data it was scary (had a 2gb plan and 3/4 of that went in 20 mins). I was on a dongle on a laptop (not on the app!) though so now may be a good time to have another go.

That was a good few years ago.

You can still nab the image to your photstream (iPhone) and use the PH image stuff to upload.

Edit. Trying the app now but it is not letting me login???

Just trying to get the app to work on mine, like I said, not used it. Now it is asking me for passwords and I don't have them.... in my keychain.... arrrrghhhh silly

Back in a mo.

Edit. Cannot find the bbcode, just the URL link on the app. Then the url with the forum formatting with pic does not work?

Sorry, out of idea's here, might be deleting the mobile app.

Been trying to download my albums via the web interface, but not having any luck. The downloads get to about 1/2 way 700-800meg out of 1.4GB and stops leaving me with an invalid/incomplete zip filebanghead.

After each attempt of downloading i have to go back to the start and re create the zip filemad

Anyone else had this problem?

Wondering if maybe it's being done on purpose as a way of making users pay to keep the photos there........

Do you not have a copy then? I assume that people are using the cloud as their only backup? I use the cloud but also many other options.

Thinking back I deleted my photo bucket account seeing as I had all the originals. I deleted all the images first then the account seeing as they were about to enact the rule that they had overall copyright.

I have several hard drives in my backup plan (home use, I bank on a hard drive failing when I least expect it). They are cheap, got a 4tb from amazon with USB3 recently at a shade over £100. Between the cloud, hard drives (4) and an off site copy (x2) I hope most things are covered. It is not fool proof but with everything digital today, I want as much as I can covered. I even burn certain copies to bluray. Important events, family gatherings etc. Spread it around.

Issues with the cloud, as you now know (not having a go), I have a backup with two firms. I miss a payment for them and my account is deleted so even that has issues, one of them relies on a key and is encrypted locally before it is sent to the cloud, lose that key and I cannot access the backup. Not really issue as long as the local backups are available but they take time to upload again.

I use Flickr as just another place to keep some images, I have all the originals. Spread it around many options, better chance they are not lost spin

Judging by how painfully slow there website is, I think most people are trying to do the same thing. Stick at it, or try doing it over night when it will be quieter.

I have just downloaded the few I had on there I wanted to keep, most of the rest was crap, and then deleted my account. I told them the were taking the mick with $399 a year.

Imgur automatically strips metadata from your images (which I think is a good thing) meaning you don't inadvertantly reveal your location etc.

The app is also a doddle to use, you can create private albums or public ones as well. I used Flickr until Yahoo bought it and I prefer Imgur for straightforward image hosting.

It appears that they've taken on the ransomware business model! I fully appreciate their need to cease free 3rd party linking - the bandwidth implications must be huge. But they've gone about it in a very bad way. Should have given at least 30 days notice of such a significant change in the t&c to give people a fair chance to move their images and update links etc. And the price their asking to reinstate the service is extortionate. There are some forums that will be really badly affected by this (particularly photography based ones). Most are non profit things, it's not like they're making a money off the back of photobucket hosted images.

I've heard on the grapevine that flickr will be following suit in the not too distant future as well (hopefully not in such dramatic fashion though). The mass exodus from photobucket to flickr might well accelerate that decision.

I was wondering that. I can live with a free account and no third party hosting but if they change anything else then I delete the lot and abandon ship.
