Haven't made the jump to a smartphone yet (have a Motorola KRZR K1 and iPod Touch 4 with Mifi), but was planning on getting an iPhone 4S next month.

I requested a PAC code from Orange and was offered the Lumia 800 with free Xbox 360 - free phone upgrade and 600mins, Unlimited text and 1GB for £31 a month.

Never considered a Windows 7 phone before but I'm seriously tempted with the free Xbox offer (I can always sell on as I don't game much), use it for a year and then get an iPhone 5 when it comes out.

You may even find, you don't want to have an iphone after you've used a wp7 for a bit. I certainly have no desire to go back to an iphone now.

I love all things Apple but open minded enough to appreciate and consider other tech. I already have the iPod Touch 4 so getting an iP4S is getting pretty much the same with Siri and better camera being the only difference.

I simply want a phone and occasional internet access on the move so the Lumia 800 may fit my needs nicely. I still have my iPod Touch with all the apps and media and carrying it in my bag on my travels so I'm still getting the best of both worlds.

I've never liked the iphone from day1 and was a bit worried ms where going to try and copy the Ios but so far the only complaint I have is lack of flash support. But oh well you cant have everything haha.

Am currently at war with Expansys.

Placed pre-order for blue Lumia 800 at £366 + VAT.

Order is now showing the black SKU which they're showing as £489!

Thankfully I used my credit (rather than my debit) card, so if they start playing silly buggers, I'll just chargeback their idiot faces.

Looks like most online retailers are now charging around the £460 mark for them sim free.

Why get rid of the SGS2 in favour of a Nexus? confused
They're about the same, only bigger screen.

The Lumia is a different beast though...

It is something that you need to use to appreciate, when people see it they tend to love it. I have had the last 3 iPhones and still have an iPad but I really love the way that WP7 works, it helps that the Lumia is (IMO) the best looking phone about at the moment.

That's a blast from the past. I owned a prada phone and whilst it did look good, I found it a pain in the bum to use.

To answer both ZesPak and Wolves

I bought the SGS2 outright a while ago when I got bored of the iPhone, it was my first foray into Android and its a very good phone, the screen is immense

However, Android whilst good isnt IMO amazing, its buggy at times and it uses a lot of battery!

So as I am due an upgrade and the fact that I like shiny new things every few months I thought I would give Android another shot with ICS and Vanilla Android from Google (Kies is a PoS)

I did then go and play quickly with a Lumia in a P4U store and was surprised at how zippy it was and how fluid it felt

So am now torn

Its just an N9 with a lower resolution screen and more buttons .... for me the n9 is clearly the best looking phone around, the Lumia is a ridiculously close second. But if you're talking about whats available in the high street, nothing comes close to the Lumia.

Shame its not got that great a camera frown

You sound a bit like you are in a similar situation to me. I was bored with ios, Android never appealed to me from having used other people's phones and them feeling a bit "unfinished". WP7 is very intelligently designed, looks beautiful and is amazingly smooth. My lumia is full of music and I have 20 or so apps and it zips along.

I understand, I was just pointing out that a Vanilla ICS can be had on the SGS2, which would make it a very similar phone to the GN.

That said, WP7 looks sleek & finished.

They're discontinuing the Silverlight browser plugin.
So what does that mean with regards to the phone in question?
Not much. Silverlight remains as a software development platform for Windows Phone 7 application development and, indeed, is one of the two software development platforms for WP7, along with XNA.
Thanks for the info smile

Right thats it. I have swung round and round and now have decided the next phone I get will be the N9 in white. Sexy ass phone. Painfully expensive at 700 quid though

Interestingly it was the no 1 selling phone in Finland in October ahead of the iphone even though granted that is the home of nokia in effect.

If it sells that well in most of the countries it is being sold in especially the asian market which is a big market for nokia that could pose a problem for nokia and "dream" force them to reconsider dumping Harmatten"dream"

I will also get the Lumia as an upgrade in late January.

That way I can try both and see which i prefer.
