Doesn't look like that'll work with the phone on the desk

So Face ID - you have to look at it and then swipe up. Not just look at it. That's properly crap, if you're going to have FID then it should just open, along with the "attention" thing to prevent accidental unlock.

I’m deeply unconvinced. He’s got to really point the phone at his face for it to work, that doesn’t seem like a step forward...

I think the 8 is actually the way forward to be honest. Scanning face seems annoying and the screen doesn’t actually seem very different. Another row of apps basically?

Touch ID is basically instant and you don’t have to look at the phone to use it.

Overall though - seen nothing to get me to switch from my 6S

hope not TOO many people crash their cars while staring at their phones because it's locked itself even though the GPS app was running.

no interest in all this animoji rubbish.

Think they did well to get Paul O Grady to present this Shindig.

Face ID....not for me. As someone has said my phone is on my desk and can just press the Home button with my index finger to get at it without having to lift it up. Also all those students now are screwed as now they have to hold it up to unlock it in lectures.....busted!!

Apparently they wanted to keep the fingerprint way but now the button has physically gone they could not get the sensor to work properly under the glass.

So....Apple have so far managed to stop the following from using their phones through facial recognition itself:

Those in Burkas, Halloween, helmets, etc.
Those disabled \ struggle with arm movements - unable to hold their phone up dead straight infront of their face (who honestly does that? you already move it just out of your pocket to unlock it - now you gotta move it dead in front of your face)

It's all very impressive, but why in this day and age do the cameras still protrude from the back? Sort it out, Ive!

Really? Seriously....has the first world now got to the stage where plugging a very small cable in has been an inconvenience and is now a "major" feature for a major product.

I'll come back when Elon Musk shows us what real innovation is with electric long range cars...oh wait he's doing that...or when someone tries to make reusable space rockets...oh er...yer...Elon again.

Apple are just reinventing the same thing over and over again. There are so many problems in the world and one of them is not the absence of animoji pandas.

let me guess, apple will have found it necessary to reinvent wireless charging in such a way as to be different to all the standards already out there, no cross compatibility with anyone else's pads, so we still can't expect wireless charging pads built into tables in restaurants or the office furniture because there's still too many standards?

I get the feeling that date will slip. Aren't they supposed to be having suppy problems with some of the components that make up the X?
