Am I right in thinking the Apple Watch 4 is only available in stainless steel when you choose the GPS + CELLULAR version? It seems the regular GPS version doesn't come in stainless at all?

Do you have to set up the cellular connection if you buy that version? I'm perfectly happy on Three.
You can get the aluminium one in either version, but the stainless one just comes with the cellular functionality.

I was actually looking forward to upgrading too, before my current 7 I changed every 18 months without fail. These phones do nothing for me

That’s saved me a grand tho
So a 3 year old phone battery getting slower less and less IOS functionality. Damage here and there + no doubt you’ve had to buy replacement lightening charge cables etc and it’s resale value is getting lower and lower.

Dear Apple, you can cover a bezel with screen glass, it's still a bezel...

For something that's supposed to be all screen with the notch to make room for the camera, that's a big black band around the screen.

A second hand iPhone 8 seems a bargain now

Certainly nothing that exciting and tbh the loss of the home button is a bit crap.

I'll keep hold of my 8 for now.

And the 1500 price tag on one new model has certainly got the media frothing, a bit like last year when they were doing the same over the £1000 iphone.

I like that Apple finally offer a Dual Sim; eSim and the hard sim. It was the reason I moved to Samsung, preferring one phone to carrying around two.

However there is nothing else. To move to iPhone XS Max from the S9+ is a sideways step at best. I'd need to see something to make me want to return to Apple. So it will have to be next year's iPhone then. Of course, the next Gen Samsung will arrive long before that and Samsung are more innovative these days so....

Still chugging away with my 6, I really don’t see the point in changaing-again!

Had the battery and screen replaced by Apple earlier this year and I really don’t see the point in buying something new.

They have really moved to be something only die hard fans want to upgrade for. Its now like upgrading your car every year. Most people just simply dont have any need other than say every 3-4 years. The cost is prohibitive now.

I'm still on my 6S and going to stay with it. Cant see the point in upgrading to something that already does what I need perfectly.
The hype over the years has caused a certain % of people to just upgrade just for the sake of it rather than bettering what they actually have already. I fell out of that trap when I bought my 6S, nothing has tempted me away from it since.

Dual sim is the only thing tempting me to an Xs. Carrying (and charging!) two phones does annoy me a lot.

To be fair, I think most phones are like this now. I'v had both of my last Samsungs for over a year and don't feel like the latest version is enough to make me change more than every 2 years. I'll stick with my Note 8 for a while yet.

My current 'phone that needs to be replaced soon is a Samsung Galaxy 6S and I use GiffGaff. Was looking at the new iPhone XR as that would suit my needs but as I travel a fair bit in New Zealand I have, in the past, just swapped the SIM over on arrival but it's not ideal to keep swapping SIMS over, the other option is to just have two 'phones I guess. The fact that the XR had dual-sim capability seemed like a solution - but not so fast - the dual-sim esim is only available with either a Vodaphone or EE contract and GiffGaff/O2 have now stated that they will not be offering this function as the investment is not worth it just for the iPhone market. So, although I was looking to replace my Android 'phone with a new iPhone that now will no longer happen even though all my other stuff is Apple, I think I may get a dual-sim OnePlus 6 instead (or maybe get an iPhone 7 and keep the Samsung for NZ but it's a pain having to carry two 'phones around!!). Why oh why could they just make available the 'phones they are going to have in China with the dual physical SIM tray.

I changed from the 6 to the X really wish i hadnt. The 6 felt bombproof the X is already scratched (first time i have ever scratched a phone, and no i dont use a case or a screen protector). The X just feels way to fancy and precious for my liking but it does run well.

Shame they can’t even show pricing clearly on their site. The XR 128gb is 799 which looks good.

Have you used one without a home button?

It is so much more intuitive and face ID works a treat.

As usual when these things come out there's a lot of moaning about how it's nothing new, what are people expecting to be on these phones (I say phones they are clearly not phones anymore are they).

They new Xs is ridiculously expensive but that is what people are prepared to pay (does anyone buy these things outright or just pay monthly?)

I upgraded from a 6S last winter, my monthly payment went up £3 with n upfront cost, I just went into EE and haggled with them, the iPhone was a massive upgrade from the 6S from the battery life, the screen and the biggest jump was the camera which is outstanding. The Xs isn't a big enough jump from the X for me to upgrade but will see whats out when I'm due an upgrade.

Yes which was ridiculously expensive - but as I say I got one for roughly the same monthly price as a 6S.

I say ridiculously expensive but i'm being a bit hyperbolic, my 'phone' is basically used as a mobile internet and email device which I use a lot everyday I think saying it's expensive for a 'phone' is misleading.

That's what I was thinking when the guy was banging on about "Edge to Edge display" and the picture behind him was showing this - lol.
