I’ve had a Vodafone Curve for a couple of months now, tracking my puppy.

Works perfectly, different modes, can do real-time tracking but that munches the battery life. Much larger than an airtag, does not successfully work on the dog’s collar, as it rapidly gets into it’s mouth and chewed. Have inelegantly duck taped to the top of his harness. Can’t find a mountable holder for it and don’t have a 3D printer (have found files for one online).

Pretty sure that it is useless without a subscription. Seems to want to add the charge to your mobile’s month account, which was a pain for me having a corporate phone, used another member of the family’s phone to setup, then shared access. Yes can have multiple users unlike airtag.

Charger it up every couple of nights, unless we have been using real-time tracking, then every night.

Not going to deter a thief, but might help me find the puppy if it does a runner wink

I suppose if the dog eats it. It’ll still track the dog without the thief knowing.

Until next time the dog poops.

Mines still going well

One of our cars is in the dealers getting the usual bs

I can now roughly see if it’s inside the work shop, at the back of the yard or in between. Not concrete info but I can tell when it’s moved based on the phones triggering it

I wonder if it’s bugging the hell out of everyone there with beeping and notification that an AirTag is present biggrin Then they go looking for it, wondering how on earth to stop that annoying beeping biggrin

Recently put airtags in each of my suitcases on a flight to Cyprus and made travelling interesting and took the worry out of taking an expensive bicycle...

I checked the bags were on the plane before we left. When I landed I checked the app before the carousel had started and it showed my bicycle was with me - I looked over and could see it had arrived at the oversized baggage area. The rest of the bags arrived soon afterwards.

It’s an additional handy item-have in the cars and you name each tag individually. Not foolproof but works well enough .

What make of battery did you try? Duracell, for example, have started putting a bitter coating on the underside of the battery to put children off of swallowing them. It's enough to form a barrier between the battery and the contact inside the Air Tag and prevent it from working, and so needs to be removed (it rubs off quite easily).

Can’t you just take it apart and remove the speaker to stop it alerting people? Ie beeping after 3 days or whatever
Edit, you can

I have a car tracker and they say to use energizer and specifically not Duracell or Panasonic as they incorporate different cell chemistry which I think messes up the low voltage warning when cell gets old (this is for lithium batteries).

Off topic slightly, as I know these are no use for tracking people.......but what is the best thing to use if I did want to track my 10 year old? He's just at that age where he's started going out long distances with his mates, and I would like to know where he is from time to time.

His mobile really.

Find my friends through apple or life 360 https://www.life360.com/intl/ is a good family solution with loads of options for different locations and privacy settings. You can even get driver reports showing heavy acceleration and braking etc. life 360 you can create locations (eg school) and get notifications when he reaches or leaves etc.

We all have it in my family so nobody feels it’s unfair or snooping, as my daughter has commuted into school in London via train and bus etc since she was 11. The kids think it’s funny seeing mum’s poor driving reports and if I’m in some dodgy bar in Thailand or whatever.

I’ve had an AirTag on our dogs collar for a while now which is linked to my apple account and seems to work fine when it’s with me. However if the missus takes the dog out the AirTag never updates it’s location from home.

I think my wife got a message on her iPhone once stating she was being followed by an AirTag and probably hit a random option to dismiss the message.

I’ve reset the AirTag but it still doesn’t seem to report it’s location from my wife’s phone. Is there a setting somewhere where she can say “sorry, I wasn’t really being stalked, it was just my dog!” And get the thing working again?

Don’t think so. AirTags are linked to a single account and are specifically designed not to be used for tracking objects like dogs and children frown

They are intended for making sure you don’t leave the keys or your laptop in the house/office. Unfortunately for apple, everyone immediately stuck one to their child, dog or bicycle and then moaned that the anti-stalking measures fit in the way of tracking as we wanted to use them.

I can see apple's point regarding privacy and whatever but when they were first released, the looked to be the perfect device for keeping track of valuables like bikes and for parents to track their kids in busy places.

Is it not a double-edged sword ? Your bags being absolutely fine, but not showing up as nearby simply because the tag hasn't checked in with someone's phone ? I think it might cause me more anxiety because I'd be looking at my phone all the time and worrying why it was not being tracked.
