Easy to forget how much more money there is in the US.

Literally 10's of million of American's could spend $3500 at the drop of the hat if they wanted.

That said this isn't designed to be a big seller, they'll almost certainly lose a packet on it. Version's 3, 4 and 5 will be the big sellers if it takes off.
yes

People spend more than that on a handbag. A lot more than that on a wristwatch.

Don't forget though that handbags and watches don't really lose value over time, I have an Omega Seamaster that was £750 new and is now selling for £2k, these items don't become obsolete due to software updates ending. They will sell a lot of them though.

Anyone want a similar product without apple tax and bulky stupid googles. Seems they is already a company making them. Yes spec will be much lower and UI probably bad but nearly a tenth the price.

What was the "killer app" when the iphone was released? Surely it was just a glorified ipod and phone without a keyboard that you could scroll with your fingers, and there were hardly any apps when it launched. Still revolutionised the market though, and I suspect this will as well with it's future iterations.

In hindsight, the reason that the ipod took off was iTunes. It made buying and curating your own music easy. The device itslef was nothing special although it was premium.

The reason why the iPhone took off was the apple brand and more importantly the app store, a simple way to get apps on your phone. It had lesser functionality than most other new phones at the time, but the ability to simply go to one store and get whatever apps you wanted safely was the USP.

This device does not seem to have any killer apps or USP and is relying solely on the Apple brand. I think it'll be an expensive gadget that will be quietly dropped over the next couple of years.

Remember, you couldnt copy and paste on the original software for the first iPhone. In fact there was lots of things it wouldn't do which was ridiculous given its computing power.

As much as this seems a bit black mirror in many ways, I would definitely be buying one if I had the money burning a hole in my wallet.

But if you want a similar spec you have to pay a similar price. Plus subscription...

You really, really, really, don't like Apple or the Vision Pro do you? It isn't obvious at all from your multiple posts! hehe

Personally I think any new piece of tech that gets people talking is pretty interesting. As I stated earlier, I can't ever see myself buying anything like this, but I think it's cool that it exists, and I will be interested to see what people use it for.

But does it need one?

Surely the success of the iPad is that is does a lot of things well so lots of people can find a use for it? For example

Me: Scoove (piano tutor), photos, Libby (magazines), Apple Music

My partner: jigsaws, other games

Dad: Netflix, bridge app

Granted we all use them for some web browsing but I’d say very few use it primarily for that - our phones do that just fine … And when it was introduced that was the feature Jobs spent the most time on.
I agree. Apple Vision is simplistically just another size of screen to add to their line up. An ipad is essentially just a big iphone. Apple Vision is just a big ipad but on your face rather in your hand, with a screen that can be as big/immersive as you want.

The above photo of the three monitor set up hits home. Apple Vision (if it works) instantly makes that set up look antiquated and redundant.

This might be off topic, but is there any medical/scientific evidence that VR headsets are bad for your eyesight? Is there any risk to your eyes with a screen being 40mm away? (from an eye strain/focussing point of view)

A nice ultra wide curved monitor would fix that setup, at a fraction of the cost.

Bit difficult to take on a plane if you want to work while on a long haul flight though. TBH, the multi monitor scenario is pretty much the only use case I can see for this outside of media consumption. Both are single user only activities as I can't see people getting 2, 3 or 4 of these rather than a massive TV to watch things together.

My guess is there will in future be an option to add on ‘dumb’ goggles or glasses that mirror the ‘master’.

I am intrigued by it. As others have said, apple didn’t invent the MP3 player, smartphone etc., but they did revolutionise it, both through clever advertising and the ‘it just works’ principle. In retrospect, the first iPhone was crap, but look what it has become. I think this might do the same.

I don't hate Apple. I was a big Apple fan before iPhone. iPad work well. But basically you can get things much cheaper for not much loss in usability.

They showed someone watched a film, but battery in 2 hours, limits options a bit. Yes the multi screen works well, but seriously normal people don't want big things on there faces.

I note that when Airpods launched they were slated for being expensive and looking ridiculous.

Yep. I was one of those "these are a joke" people. Now I don't leave the house without mine.

But this is the key isn’t it for the vast majority of people who aren’t especially technically minded, or don’t want the bother of faffing with their personal devices.

I think it’s fair to say the majority of people with an iPhone iPad and Apple Watch are happy with them - otherwise they wouldn’t keep buying them - and paying a premium to do so.

Suggest they give them up for a cheap Android phone, a Kindle tablet and no brand fitness band and you will be rewarded with a blank look. Good luck getting those devices to seamlessly sync for starters.

Re cost - I am still using my iPhone 8 after six years. It was expensive but it’s hard to argue I haven’t got my money’s worth out of the thing…

Your lack of imagination is astounding. Do you not think there is a simple solution to this that already exists?
