This was one of the reasons I switched to a much more expensive option from Reg1 than I ever needed - to prevent my IP address being blacklisted because of the misdemeanours of others on the shared server. In the old days they could be relied upon to resolve the problem as quickly as possible, but I'm no longer convinced of that fact. I asked them to do a small administrative thing for me on Friday night last week, it was finally done late on Monday morning. It wasn't a big thing, but it was something I didn't have the access to do myself. Back in the Jamie Era it would've been done within the hour.

Switched to TSOhost since last Monday (since Reg1 did that small administrative thing, actually hehe ). It's early days yet, but these guys seem really on the ball. Support is excellent. It took them 20 minutes to respond to a non-urgent query in the middle of the night last Friday, and they apologised for the delay! Proper customer service.

I've said similar already, but TSO go out of their way.

I previously had a issue with SQL on R1 and they just told me to figure it out, or pay them to do so. TSO have spend a good hour going through my setup and optimized it for me and it's running so much better, I didn't even ask them to!

Very happy, and I get a freephone number to call them up for emergency issues.

Fed up with R1 now so bought email server and hosting from TSO, should be online by end of day and hosting switched over tomorrow...

Shame R1 has gone down the pan and it came to this... Costs an extra £15 per month for piece of mind, but if I now don't lose another sale because of it, it pays for itself.

Looks like that - one site down for the last 12 hours, no news on when it will be back up either.

Shame, but at least I now know to change hosts.

Funny. It's been months since I received any form of mail communication from Register 1, despite them having the correct email address for me. I didn't even get the mail about the planned mail outage a couple of weeks ago. But now I receive a countdown mail every day, telling me my hosting service is about to expire and I need to act to keep it.

Ah well. At least something works properly. smile

I've currently got minus 3 days to renew my Reg1 server according to their reminder emails smile

I wonder when they'll realise I'm not going to?

I'm sorely tempted to set up a replica server on TSO Host as a Business Contingency Plan with a different URL to our primary server.

Separate name servers, different physical locations and the ability to test code before it goes live at a very attractive price.

What's not to like biggrin

Well I've done it. A parent site and four subdomains all with different MySQL database connections. The purchase was easy, the website was up within minutes and the domain purchases went smoothly.

I needed a bit of help with custom php.ini settings, all achieved very painlessly with the help of TSO support.

Three support cases raised via ticket thus far, all answered promptly and dealt with successfully.

And as a bonus my site loads in 2.42 seconds instead of 2.48 biggrin

I just received the "You have 0 days left on your server" mail from them. Quite sad really.

Still, onwards and upwards. And I'm also several hundred pounds a year better off. smile

Just FYI none of the links beginning with http://sqirl.midsun.co.uk work

Thanks, I forgot about those! I've let the sqirl domain go because I wasn't really using it. I've still got the files on the new server somewhere, I'll have a dig round for them and see if I can find them.

Can anyone clarify how I should go about moving a batch of domains away from R1?

The websites themselves are hosted elsewhere; I'd want to make someone like 1and1 (who aren't likely to be going anywhere anytime soon) the registrar.

Don't go with 1and1, they're awful.

Move to VidaHost/TSOHost and let them move all the websites for you.

I've had sites registered with 1and1 for 10+ years without issue. All they'll be doing is making sure the domains get renewed on time, no commercial hosting.

It's when you have an issue you'll find 1&1 are lacking. The problem is always your fault and answered in the FAQ.

TSO have been very good so far and they're well priced.
