What one? I went 9000, 9000i, 9110 etc upto the 9300 I think I am on now. But would prefer the "i" as that has wifi(?).
TBH dont know just popped into my head the other day that i want one to go alongside my N8 so that i dont have to get an E7 as well as the N8.Wifi i would say is a must so prob 9000i unless later versions had wifi as well havent looked into it that deeply yet tbh as may get a 770 first.
Which is another thing. The ipad isnt as original as everyone thinks. I didnt even really realise that nokia made the 770 which was in effect the ipad before the ipad as it were.

The 770 was a cracking bit of kit; underspecced, but it was effectively a skunkworks operation by a bunch of Linux geeks in a dusty corner of the Nokia operation. I do very much miss my 770, stupidly sold it a few years back. Would have been nice to keep if only as a photo frame.Wifi i would say is a must so prob 9000i unless later versions had wifi as well havent looked into it that deeply yet tbh as may get a 770 first.

Well thats looking like the plan at the moment.
Apparently it has terminal on it? I use putty for work which i assume is basically the same layout?
Also wondering if there would be a way to terminal onto a switch somehow???? In fact i wonder if its possible to get putty to work on my N8 and then to connect my n8 to a switch??
Craaaaazy thoughts....

Whats the point though? Its not like you can use it to terminal onto a switch is it???
Though i do find this clip quite cool in a geeky way...

Hmmm did the 770 come with wifi at any point???
Always had it, wifi and bluetooth. Used MMC cards (relatively awkward), but did get some surprising support from the devs/engineers - it was kept as up to date with the OS as the hardware would allow via the "Hacker Edition" firmwares. It was underpowered, but then it was released in 2005, and back then a 250mHz CPU and however much RAM on it was probably sufficient to test the concept at the time.
Would a HTC desire Z not fit the bill? It seems like the desire but with a full split open like a n97 keypad.
What is the n8 like compared to older symbian products then? I have a 5800 xpressmusic and to be honest I don't really have a problem with it. It isn't slick but an upgrade to opera mobile fixes any web based gripes. I have just returned a HTC desire HD7 which I hated due to its lack of customisation but it has to be said it was quick and slick. I can upgrade to the N8 but would have to switch carriers for the desire HD. I'm just trying to work out if that's a change I should make as there seems to be endless hate for the n8 online.

IFAIK the main problem with the N8 is Symbian, but it does tend to be over exaggerated. Symbian works and isn't missing anything major, it's just not as quick and slick as the competition. That's at the moment though, but if you are buying a phone to last you the next 2+ years you need to be a bit more careful. Now that Nokia has effectively dropped Symbian I'd expect there to be few (if any) updates to it and very few companies writing major apps for it, which (depending on what you use it for) could become a problem as time wears on.

I think this ^^^^^ pretty much covers it. The operating system is miles better than the old one but i advise buying direct from nokia if getting an N8 which is what i did. I got it from nokia online on contract with O2 for 25 quid a month phone for free and my friend got it from orange directly and there is a definite difference in how the phone seems to run.
I used to have an N97 and the N8 software is a lot better. Its not perfect symbian never was going to be the way nokia were doing things. But set the phone up right and its a great piece of kit.
It doesnt freeze or randomly restart.
The nav is simply brilliant as is the camera.
The multiple mail is great too other than that there looks to be some sort of glitch meaning you have to have your mail on your home screen to auto update Biggest criticism has to be the vibration function which is quite weak compared to nokias of old.
As said biggest question here is support for symbian moving forward. They have just launched the E7 which is a business phone on symbian. Not sure they can simply walk away they may just provide support for the next 2 yrs till it is replaced/obsolete. This is my hope anyway.

I 'need' it for the wifi connection. I did try the internet over bluetooth that someone had created but it does not work on that model.
Looking at it for controlling things around the house and that would make a great interface.
