Thanks. I know that, but even using the system back button will only bring me back to where I was before, rather then one press between the three. Sorry, it's just not to my liking. I appreciate others like it, but I'm sure that others don't as well.

Kit Kat just arrived. As for my N7 there's little in the way of new features to play with but the dialer is different and interesting, and the new version of Hangouts is good - I like that.

Got the update this evening. I preferred the blue fonts at the top... Other than that and the dialer there doesn't seem to be much difference.

i went to root my phone yesterday morning, and upon a factory reset 4.4 arrived, so i updated and rooted that. im seeing quite a few new features, but nothing i can find particularly useful so far. shame that SMS Backup+ didnt work, meaning i lost all of my previous text messages, but its hardly the end of the world

What doesn't work about it, I've got it on mine and it still appears to be backing up my messages?

Having played with KitKat for a while, the main benefits seem to be along the lines of better battery life and lower memory consumption... but you can't "see" those in the interface.

I think I'm going to downgrade to Jellybean tbh. I don't like the hesitancy when you exit an app, plus not fan of the dialler/phonebook.

Anyone tried ART mode yet? Whatsapp doesn't work so maybe a deal breaker but apparenetly gives performance gains..

If it's good I might go to the effort of flashing a ROM again..

Yep running ART on my N4. Seems a lot quicker and better battery life too. You can always swap back.

Neither do I. Finding that the more I use it, the less that I like it. My friend thinks it's great though.

What don't you like?

The aforesaid speed, the contact list, where they've put the camera icon on the lock screen (have an encrypted device, so it's where the 'enter' key for the password used to be, so constantly press the camera instead), the battery seems to go down faster, the new mail organisation (google and other), plus they seem to have moved stuff around in the settings, so finding where to log out of google+, hangouts, and everything else are all in different places. I do quite like the colour scheme though, but that's not enough!

The hesitancy is the worst. In the grand scheme of things, it's only a fraction of a second, but there's a delay now where there wasn't before. I think on Nexus 5 there wouldn't be... but it does bug me a little that upgrading causes it all to slow down - it's one of the reasons I ditched my iphone.

I am a little bothered about the security updates for Jellybean though - there will sure to be holes fixed in KitKat - not sure how long they will be releasing updates for JB.

You can set it from the developer options, very easy. Trying it now. TBH I'm perfectly happy with the performance of my N4 after the 4.4 update (I did end up flashing the 4.4 factory image on though), so I'll switch back at the slightest issue.

My 2012 N7 would benefit more I'd imagine,..

OTA KitKat on my N4 with no probs though was disappointed the "Okay Google" command didnt work.
Bit of searching and found this

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2...

when you download the file it gives you the N5 home screen and while the phone screen is on, voice search. You only need the GEL app (not the search) if youve got KitKat alerady I think - mine had the new version.

Spent an hour playing with it today!

Upgraded my N4 yesterday.

Things I've noticed so far are:

  • Default Messaging app no longer shows a picture for smiley faces just the text
  • The very slight "lag" when exiting/switching an app
  • Battery monitor apps don't work - this is because Google have removed access to the polling function
Battery life does seem to be a little better though it's too early to tell if it's just fluke due to a quiet day.

There's nothing so far that's making me go "wow".

I've seen no lag whatsoever on my N5.

It is somewhat faster than the N4.

Lag may not be quite the word - it feels like it's a deliberate bit of feedback by the OS.

As for the smiley thing yep the keyboard shows them but when you hit "Send" you used to see a green smiley face whilst now you literally see ":-)".

If you look at Better Battery Stats on the Play Store it has a link to the battery stats issue.

Hopefully you can see how I'd be confused by all three points..?
