Yes, seems he left it on and forgot about it for a few weeks. Came back to find it dead as a dodo. I've popped the back off, unplugged the battery and plugged it in again, still nothing.

Have you tried all here as well?

Tried everything up to the 1 hour bit. Looks like I will have to try the 10 hour one next and then the overnight if that doesn't work. Bah

Mine is better if anything, particularly touch response. I'd try wiping cache or factory reset.
How do I wipe the cache?
Scroll down from the right > settings > storage > tap cached data > tap empty cache.
Thanks!

That's certainly an easier way than going into recovery, I'll remember that one, ta!

That clears the application cache, which is different to the system cache partition.

Well in that case still better to do it through recovery to improve overall system performance IMO.

But in any case I've had kitkat on the n7 for a week now and its definitely a change for the better.

Original n7 user here just downloaded the4.4 update, not impressed so far. Battery life has took a serious turn for the worse, used to be able to leave on all day without WiFi and would drop a percent or two of battery now it loses about 30% under same conditions.

May be a reason to look at a custom is.

What does it claim is using the most battery? I have had the media server, android OS, and Google services all appear at the top of the list at various times using more battery than they should. A reboot normally sorts it, and the idle battery life gores back to normal.

Media server at 74% which hasn't been used, will try a reboot see if that helps. Thanks.

One thing I don't like about kitkat is the flash doesn't work in Firefox unless I root the N7!

Alas my N7 couldn't handle 1.7GHz, but at 1.6 and ART enabled got an Antutu score of 17000 equalling the N4. CPU score is much higher but the N4 still hammers the N7 for graphics and RAM performance. Will try using it more to see how stable it is.
Alas, despite the ART and overclock it seems to have lost some of it's speed, in particular when switching apps/opening keyboard, think the RAM is the biggest limitation here...

Also the Gapps (from PananoidAndroid) isn't fully compatible with ART - while I haven't had anything crash on me, I've had lots of messages saying 'sorry but process.gapps has closed' (or similar) popping up at random times. Annoying!

Out of curiosity, is there a fairly cheap (less than £130) 7 inch tablet that has 2GB RAM? If I didn't have the N7 I'd probably have either an Asus Memo Pad HD 7 or Tesco Hudl, but they're both 1GB RAM.

I've got the memo pad hd7 because my N7 died.
Apart from the smear magnet screen and lack of OTG it's every bit as good as a N7.

Not quite under £130 but near enough.
Not ordered from them but on paper they have some reasonable looking hardware.

ETA: Whoops, not a 7" tablet at all is it! Still, seems good value.

Ditched the unofficial CM11 a week ago and been running this ROM, no issues with Gapps crashing or any funnies. Couldn't match the Antutu score (just below 17000) but no performance degradation. smile

Not going to stop me from trying the official CM11 nightlies now they've been released hehe

ETA going to try enabling 'zRAM' which is included with recent CM ROMs, might compensate for my N7s lack of RAM...

Yeah, just installed it.

Now that all the good stuff is in Google Play Services though, the magic has somewhat gone out of Android updates.

Different icon colours? Whoopee!
