I saw a woman using a Note 3 the other day as a phone and it looked ridiculous. I've never really had any issues on the iPhone viewing websites, youtube or email for that matter as the zoom function works quite well. But I wouldn't like to spend a great deal of time typing on one.
I agree, when using it as a phone it does look ridiculous. But the fact is, all smartphones are pretty average at being phones (not to mention battery life but...). They are much more than that, they are portable computers. And if you use it more and more as a personal assistant/computer, a size up really makes the experience a lot better imho.
I found the same thing, moving from a 4S to a Note 2. What really got it for me was the sat nav, having a bigger screen made things easier with Copilot, and also being able to use the company CRM on the go. It wasnt much fun on an iPhone, but on a slightly bigger screen, perfect. No squinting
Other things have shown themselves as pros, others cons but on the whole I prefer a larger screen
Something popped up yesterday on my Google Now about the Oneplus One, think it was because of the Cyanogenmod install and a delay in rollout, and I thought it was Oppo at first. So that was kind of a surprise to find out how they're related

Apparently they are starting to ship today but by the sounds of it you'll have a job getting your hands on one thanks to the (silly) invite system.
Like I said in another topic, it's just a way to deal with (initial) demand. Another way is to have waiting lists, which means you CAN order one but may receive it in a number of months. (The most popular brands work through this principle).Another Chinese phone with a similar spec to the OnePlus One but with a 5" screen, Xiaomi Mi4 http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/technology-28416796
