How does Kodi on a fire-stick work?
Does it have menus that you can control with you TV remote?
You may have picked up that I am not a gadget whizz...
The stick in our bedroom works off the TV remote, LG TV with CEC (Simplink I think is the LG term)Does it have menus that you can control with you TV remote?

I run SPMC on my Fire TV box downstairs, seems to run better than Kodi.
This is getting worse, tried it again as I found you can put the confluence skin back on it, now apart from having problems running fusion which is a different story I have re-done my library for the films stored locally on the NAS. Even though I have ticked the box that says "keep original title" it has decided to rename some of them anyway to what is sees fit.
I now have several films with titles in a foreign language and a good film about Epic Beard Man called Bad Ass has been renamed to this
How would I explain that one, why the constant need to fix stuff that aint broke.

This could be down to the local NFO info saved in your film folders...I now have several films with titles in a foreign language and a good film about Epic Beard Man called Bad Ass has been renamed to this

to check, you can right click a film, go to information, then select refresh. If the title of the film updates to the correct name. It would confirm you have some local NFO info conflicting in your library
Download Ember media manager and scrape your library. This will update all your NFO files
thanks

Off at a tangent a little, but it possibly to force videos into the library? I have a couple of home movies (not that sort!) that I'd like to show up in the lists, but with the scrapers not finding them hey don't appear....
I don't know the details, but you need some sort of library information for them, is there an ID3 tag equivalent for Videos? Alternatively you can skip the library and use the file browser to find them, add the folder as a favourite or as a separate SMB share for a more seamless experience. For those discussing remotes earlier, I can highly recommend the Yatse remote app on your phone or tablet. It accesses the library directly, so it fixes issues with low power devices like RPis taking ages to navigate menus, as well as doing a really good job.
That said, if you're going for App control, you might as well sack it off and use Plex with a Chromecast.

Download the complete kodi set up to android phone.
Download an app called app to fire.
Open app to fire. Add complete kodi set up. Add build and add extras.

It works the same as it does on any other device, very easy to use. It can be tricky to install, but there are plenty of YouTube videos with instructions.Does it have menus that you can control with you TV remote?

Been running 17 on my devices for ages and it's a lot snappier than 16
Any recommendations for a FAST build with a design that isnt too spave age/ comic book look
Might be a big ask I am currently using 2 differnt builds on 2 firesticks and one was touted as being espaecially good due to size the other more standard. The reality seems they are just as fast as each other

I've tried a few skins out, couldn't find many that were fully developed to the point where there weren't jarring inconsistencies or missing bits when you got deep into the menus or started using add-ons, so I gave up.Might be a big ask I am currently using 2 differnt builds on 2 firesticks and one was touted as being espaecially good due to size the other more standard. Another reason I switched to Plex is that their Home Theatre front-end is much nicer and more polished than anything I've seen on Kodi. But really losing the front end entirely is the future, accessing your library via a phone etc is much easier and it's cheaper to plug a £20 Chromecast in than go looking for something powerful to run Kodi properly. That approach also gets you a remote in the notification bar of every Android device on the WiFi network running the Google Home App when something is playing.
