Thanks for the OP for this - just coming to the end of my second year with Norton and looking for replacement. Its not been too bad, but a combination of recent programs and their size has really played havoc with my Babbage and I need something that is less bulky.

Am trialing AVG Antispyware and SUPERantispyware along with Spybot - like the sound of the rest of the AVG suite so will give those a go too.

Anyone know how to remove Norton when the subscription is over?
hunt for the "Norton removal tool" on their site
Be careful though - it will remove ALL norton products so if you use Save and Restore or anything else then its best to do it via Add/Remove programs...

My Norton sub runs out in January, i'm not sure if I'm going to renew!! It just seems a bit of risk running one of the free ones. On the other hand I really hate Norton and its memory chewing bloatware!

What to do....

Thanks for this - I'll go down the one-at-a-time route methinks

I'm surprised no ones mentioned Avast. I've used this for years and had no problems whatsoever.
+1
+3. Used for years now and very good. Unlike AVG, once registered the only time you notice it is when you need to upgrade the version or re-register (after 14 months). AVG does occasionally pops up trying to flog you some registry checker/antispyware,etc,etc.
Cant say i have ever had problems with above either, been using for some years now never had problems, but then i dont download loads of crap.

definitely not macafee, I installed it (free from my new isp and was curious), I couldn't even log into any forums/sites by default. You have to go through this rigmaroll to allow you to log into each site furious
