Those were the days...
when the games cost around a tenner and with a good set of twin decks you could have it copied round the school by the end of the week!
Those were indeed the days...you knew who your friends were at school when it came to the cassettes. The cartridges were OK to pool and swap with each other - but I had a Dragon 32 and they cost about £20 each - or 10% of what the computer cost!
Think I ha the other one!
Cuthbert in the jungle anyone?

Are you still using one because it seems to have taken your computer over a month to download this thread for you to respond to it?
...and what's wrong with using my C64? If it ain't broke, don't fix (or replace) it, I always say! Just coz some of you lot have more money than sense!

Mind you, I did upgrade the tape deck to a quad speed one. Marvellous.

Well I had the third one then.
Got into the habit of actually completing the damn games. Finished CITJ, and Digging, finished Speed Racer, Donkey King and actually completed a Shuttle mission too (all other missions resulted in total loss of Orbiter vehicle, couldn't land the thing basically)
Oh, and beat the Chess (cartridge) on level 3, well pissed my dad off, he only beat it at level 2

Started with a ZX81 (actually I used a PET at college but the teacher knew less than we did
), then a Spectrum with Niteflite 2 (wonder where I got the flight sim addiction). Later in my ham radio days I had a VIC-20 decoding Morse, running radioteletype and spinning the aerials on the roof (see? a practical use for a computer!).
Then I had an ORIC and a Spectrum+ with Microdrive (wow! How fast?!).
Had a bit of a gap then got back in with C64s which you could buy for buttons by the late 90s - twin disk drives, printer, plotter and monitor for £20 anyone? Used one to control the central heating.
Loved Elite on the 64 though it was a pain on the Spectrum.
Still have a few bits stashed away....

Elite was the first game I bought when I got my first PC in 94.
94 !!! eeeh when I were a lad...
I was playing elite on my Acorn electron in 85-86 and Frontier by 1993.
See my earlier post re: Dragon 32
My mate had it on his acorn and I was always dead jealous.

I believe that there are various pills and potions which will help turn your "acorn" into a "mighty oak" if you know what I mean. That's according to some of the really nice mails I get to my hotmail account.
Have you been getting emails from that nice man Ron Jeremy as well then?
