Blocking torrent programs on a shared home network
Discussion
Get an old pc off ebay, an extra ethernet card, stick pfsense on it and run it as a captive portal.
http://www.pfsense.com/
Then stick it between the adsl router, and whatever hub/switch you are using.
You can then use it to easily stop torrents, or any other kind of downloads, or restrict them to certain bandwidths or times of day.
No worries about fiddling with your employers adsl box![smile](/inc/images/smile.gif)
As an added extra its an excellent firewall, and proxy web cache, so might actually speed up some of your surfing, and stop people looking at 'unsuitable' sites...
its free, well supported and well worth a look.
I have one running on a 'public wifi' that supports a 100 site caravan park, works a treat, and nobody gets to hog the connection, or download any thrap any more..
All running on an old P4, that more than copes.
