It was actually the sweeping generalisations about Porsche and BMW owners I found tedious.
Anyway, as you were...
It might have been a sweeping generalisation, but maybe not an inaccurate one.Anyway, as you were...
While some people will buy a 911 for other reasons, there are many that buy them because 'they are the car to buy' and importantly, the car to been seen in and let people know you have bought it.
The same sort of person would buy a Golf GTI, just because it's a Golf GTI.
For the wider market, vanity can and does play a large part in car purchases.
Fenix seems to be one of those brands too, over on CPF you see it a lot. People joining saying they want to buy a Fenix, only because they are of the believe they are the ultimate. They don't want to listen to people saying about other makes, all they want is people to say yes, do it.
Now I'm not saying to anyone here don't buy a Fenix. They do actually make some very good torches. My advice is simply, do have a look around, because there are a lot of other brands too.
Having bought a couple of these alternative lesser known / unknown brands, and maybe I made bad choices, but one was great on output but s

For the record I own only one Fenix torch, bought on the recommendation of a PHER, Pesty as it happens, who uses his for exactly the same purpose I wanted, namely night dog walks in open country. It's exactly as described, if it gets lost / damaged, would have a look around to see if there is anything else but as far as I can see, so far, there isn't.

What is the LED Lenser warranty like? Mine is a few years old, but has died - worth trying to get them to replace it? Or treat myself to a new one?
Pretty good when I've spoken to them. You should be able to find details on their website. Just shoot them an email or give them a call. Worst they can say is no.Of course there is vanity involved in torch buying - I've had several conversations with people who rely on their torch at work, and when the subject comes up will pull out their pride and joy Lenser or Fenix light and tell me how their chosen manufacturer makes the best torches.
And personally when I'm trying to find a new torch to fulfil a job I'd rather talk to people who own dozens of torches and can speak with more experience than I having a larger frame of reference. The alternative of finding someone who has bought one light and been happy with the result isn't a bad thing but I'd rather know about all the options. Especially since I recently loaned a couple of people a Sipik SK68 (a £1.50 torch) running a 14500 and was told how good a bit of kit it is. It is a good, great VFM light incidentally - but there are a hundred brighter or lighter options out there that will do a given task better.
And let's be honest, dog walking isn't exactly a taxing job. But who cares, as long as you're happy in yourself with your purchases it doesn't really matter - but nor does the suggestion to hunt around hurt either.

Worth checking the state of the contacts in the battery compartment. When mine started playing up there was some green fuzz in there which I cleaned off and cured the problem.Richie C said:
I've already got a Fenix. I used to have a Golf GTI too. Christ, am I "one of those people"?!?
I have never owned a GTi nor a BMW but I do have a Fenix TK75 the most excellent torch and ideal for the SAR role when tramping over large sections of ground I have a back up of an LED Lenser too (not to mention the vast number of bloody batteries I have to accompany the torches)Build quality is superb and with the added bonus of a handwarmer on turbo mode

Personally I use Fenix as it does exactly what I want every time I want it to. No worries on build quality. Unlike those listed above where every second bangood review is about build quality issues.
I appreciate quality and consistent engineering. That's why I use brands like Fenix, LED Lenser etc.

Found myself playing with setting my Convoy lights into suitable mode groupings just now. Surprisingly satisfying being able to choose something that suits my needs. The driver on the new C8 (the clear one linked earlier) has 11 different options - I've plumped for one that starts the light in 100% then cycles down through the modes whilst cutting out SOS and biking modes. All very clever stuff:

Ok batteries arrived and charged this programing step doesn't seem to work for the l6 ![](https://ae01.alicdn.com/kf/HTB1HVjDNXXXXXXfXFXXq6xXFXXXY/121130677/HTB1HVjDNXXXXXXfXFXXq6xXFXXXY.jpg)
Tried googling convoy l6 programming but only get reviews. Any idea where I can find this for the l6?

There's a 'contact' link on the Ali Express store below - that should go through to Simon at Convoy, he'll be able to tell you if the driver will allow mode switching.

How are you finding it otherwise? Have had to talk myself out of the L6 several times already.
My latest light in the quest for the perfect keychain light has turned up today - a Jetbeam Jet-II MK.
http://www.jetbeamlight.com/ShowProducts.asp?ID=10...
My first Jetbeam light and I'm really impressed - it's so well put together. It's the first twisty light I've come across that actually seems to work properly, just the right amount of resistance and (most importantly, and unlike others) there's a good 4 turns between the 'off' and 'unscrewed' positions. Sounds daft but it means there isn't a choice between accidental activation and the whole assembly coming unscrewed in your pocket. And because it all moves so smoothly switching between modes doesn't seem like a faff (which I thought it would.)
Beam wise I've only played around with it in the garden, shining it at the neighbours roofs but I had an 'oooooohhh...' moment when sticking it into high mode (510 lumens) - it doesn't feel right something so small being so bright. Nice little hotspot, so it should do nicely as a backup for my headtorch when trail running.
A quality little light. Now to wait and see how it stacks up against the other keyring lights I've ordered when they arrive.

That looks like the twin brother of the on the road m3 I mentioned a few pages ago http://www.jetbeamlight.com/ShowProducts.asp?ID=10...

I think twin might be stretching it. Call it cousin maybe. Different body, size (slightly), emitter, switch style, UI etc. Beam pattern looks pretty different too.![hehe](/inc/images/hehe.gif)

The OTR M3 looks like more of an Olight clone than a Jetbeam clone to me.
How are you finding it?
Following 300bhp's suggestion last year I bought a Uniquefire UF 1405 which I was very pleased with however now I would like something better.
My main issue with the 1405 is it takes far too many turns to zoom - so either max 2 twists or ideally just a push to zoom - or so powerful it doesn't need to zoom.
Having had a search...
Convoy L6 XHP70 3800LM £48
Although I'd rather spend less
