I'm having a number of problems with mine lately which generally result in me saying "fk off" a lot to Alexa - I've got 4 devices in the house which, for the most part, pick things up fine. However, I've got a routine of "Alexa, lights" which turns on the downstairs lights - Every now and then, I'll get the response of "can't find anything named lights" - It's getting on my nerves.
What's wrong with the switch on the wall?

On top of this, it looks like the default TuneIn app, no longer has some BBC Radio stations - And the BBC Radio skill doesn't seem to do multi room. I'm starting to get a little jaded with Alexa now as it's gone from being helpful, to a pain in the arse...

Is it me?
I noticed this morning Radio 6 came back with a fault message when asked to play on Alexa. Yet yesterday I was abroad and Alexa played it fine?!
To be fair, the BBC removing their stations from TuneIn isn't Amazon's fault and you're far from the first person to be annoyed about it: https://www.theregister.co.uk/2019/10/01/bbc_tunei...

This, plus the death of the iPlayer Radio app for their absolutely horrendous Sounds app, smacks of the BBC's new Head of Radio being desperate to be seen to be having some impact. He's certainly having that all right...

I can understand that you might want to say "Alexa, play the British Broadcasting Company's Home service", but to turn the lights on?

It can be quite handy in the morning to have the lights on when I go downstairs - Also, in winter, to be able to turn the lights on before I get home can be useful too (also handy as a security feature as I live by myself and my area could be classed as having higher than average crime).

I'm sure I'm not the only one that does it mind smile

For his £189k salary, he's doing a great job.

If the BBC wasn't funded in a unique way, they'd be concerned about the loss of listeners...

What irks me the most is that anyone outside of the UK (ie non-licence payers) can still enjoy the integration. How broken is that?!

It’s all to do with data harvesting you can see the BBC’s blog about it here

https://www.bbc.co.uk/blogs/aboutthebbc/entries/37...

It’s interesting to read the comments on that page, many users are angry about the BBC’s decision.

That's annoying.

"Play BBC Radio 4" works, I get a live stream from BBC Sounds on one speaker.

"Play BBC Radio 4 on the everywhere group" no longer works, I get the nearest matching station from TuneIn.

Poor show.

How do I get Alexa to turn on my lights at 4pm this evening?

I don't want to set a routine, because I 9nly want it to happen once.

Do you mean if you are away from home? You can use the Alexa app on your phone to turn them on remotely.

What sort of lights do you have.

I use hue and it would be dead easy to set a timer to turn the lights on in 2 hours and 24 mins as a 1 of event. {Routines > timers in the hue app)

I've looked it up and apparently it's been a thing for a year, but I've accidentally activated 'whisper mode'. You can do it in the app setting, but I did it by talking quietly to Alexa, which it took as whispering, and asked me if I wanted whisper mode turned on, so I said yes. Now, if I whisper to Alexa, I get a whispered answer back hehe

All those angry users created an account on the bbc.com so they could comment on the blog :-)

It does mean that i wont listen to bbc radio anymore though .. as the tunein integration worked .. and the bbc app just doesn't have the same functionality

Well, all of my Teckin smartplugs have decided (after a power cut) to st the bed and not be discoverable anymore.

I've tried resetting them, connecting to them in AP mode, they just cannot be found by the app.

Any recommendations for Alexa compatible smart plugs that are reliable ?

TP-Link HS100.

I must have installed over 10 of these at home and relatives houses, never had a problem with any of them.

I have 3 and it’s not uncommon to get “this device is not working right now” from Alexa and as soon as I’m in the Kasa app I can do it manually really lets the whole automated home down. I’ll be going for some HomeKit plugs soon.
