6 months after installing mine I'm taking it down. I've bought a house with leased line and FTTP options so have no ongoing need for it.

I received my starlink on Monday.

Initial observations:

Hardly any documentation comes in the box.

Plugged it in, got 192mbps download speed which seems pretty good. Today it is around 110, I guess due to the weather.

The new version (square) does not have an ethernet port included in the hub/router, so had to get one of those on backorder for early March hopefully. The router provides its own wifi network (which can be disabled when the ethernet adapter is used to connect to my home network) that I am using from my laptop to see how the connectivity is - so good so far.

Can't find a definitive answer on which way my dish should be tilted. The online info says north, the live satellite stream shows the orbits slightly south of my position (north of england). I have had it set south facing and it seems fine.

When the ethernet adapter arrives I will be roof mounting the dish making use of an old tv aerial pole (with an adapter from starlink, also on backorder) and using the starlink connection as the primary route, with a 4G modem as failover.
Mine arrived yesterday. Similar experience but I had pre-ordered the ethernet adapter yet it still had not arrived with my dish. Annoying as the input into my house is not anywhere near my office so using a WiFi router as a media bridge, then into a power over ethernet for the rest of the house. At the Starlink router I'm getting around 180mb download. Uploaded is 16mb. In my house it's much lower (due to the crap network setup). Hoping the adaptor improves things.

My dish is just placed in my grade for now. Did not even consider the direction lol.

Update. Got the ethernet adapter today. Getting 200-210 on my home wifi with it hardwired, was getting no more than 120 on the starlink router wifi before, but that could have been the location of the unit. I was getting around 35 on a good day with the previous radio service ISP using the same lan configuration.

How is everyone getting on with Starlink now? I am hovering over the buy button at the moment, we are about to move somewhere with a 1mb hardline which is no use. 4G seems to be about 25mb which isn't too bad but realistically with both the wife and I working from home I am wondering if this might be a better option. I am tempted to try out the 4G option for a while and see how we get on but the appeal of the extra bandwidth is very tempting

Working great for me. No noticeable dropouts and speed is still excellent.

Thanks guys. Anyone do much gaming over it? I don’t play much beyond GTA online with a group of mates and a bit of AoE

25 is fine via 4G, I used to get that in a rural area and had no issues with it being fast enough.
Now I only get around 20, but upload is terrible, and no BT fast option either, so think SL is my only real option.

A B818 4G router will probably get more than you get now, so worth trying if it’s a decent signal.
I went from a 4G EE router getting 130 down to around 300 just by changing it to a B818! They’re amazing

"While the monthly subscription was 99 euros, the company sent an email to tell its customers that it was going to 50 euros. Second KissCool effect, this good news is accompanied by the establishment of a " fair use policy " in October.

This is in fact a concept that is already found in the vast majority of 4G / 5G packages from French operators: a “ fair use ” of 250 GB, when there was none before. Beyond this amount of data, the speed may therefore be reduced “ during periods of network congestion ”.

You can purchase 100GB for 10 Euros.

Has anyone seen anything like this coming to the uk? Cheaper prices are always nice but not sure on the data cap.

My monthly usage is usually just over 1Tb, so sounds like price would be quite high.

"KissCool" effect? I wonder what that is.

Anyway, I've ordered one. €50 sounds reasonable. I pay €20 for 130 Gig 4G currently.

after a few weeks/months of empty promises from Airband and a number of failed/unreliable wired and 4g router solutions ive just pressed order on Starlink today.

How long did it take for delivery for everyone else?

My sons do PS5 over Starlink with no complaints.

I use it all the time on teams conferences, and dropouts are negligible.

Something like 3 months for the router and dish then about another 2 weeks after that for the extras I orderd at the same time (Ethernet kit etc).

Looks like users in certain areas in the US are seeing markedly lower speeds of late due to it now being possible to roam and move registered locations easier, leading to oversubscription in some 'cells':

Just to add to this, the Starlink arrived yesterday, so less than a week from order to delivery.

Luke.
