OK seems like a bug.... When I connect in "Lock" mode the phone doesn't show anything, if I connect when the phone is unlocked it works Hmmm
Sounds more like a security feature PeterGadsby said:
Well you say that, but when I tried the first time, plugged in the phone then unlocked it didn't show the proper screen on the mac. Instead I had to unlock the phone first and then connect to the mac..... Either way should work IMHO
Are you making a physical connection? If so then the machine won’t recognise and locked phone when you plug it in and they are not looking for devices that are woken up when plugged in. The spur to create a connection is the act of plugging in and both devices have to be awake for that craigjm said:

Just updated my MacBook Air to Big Sur and now it won't let me copy anything on to my external HD or create new folders on it.
Checked permission and I apparently have read/write permission.
Any ideas?
Presume you could before , what format is the drive ? Checked permission and I apparently have read/write permission.

Yeah all worked fine - of the top of my head can't remember but will have a look.
Probably won’t be it then, I had a similar issue switching to Mac turned out the file format of my hdd was to blame (NTFS can be read but not written on MAC) If it was working before can’t see why it would be that though

Safari 15 is absolute horse st. So many of apples recent releases have really annoyed me because they have been released without thought.
You really think they do it without thought? Without analytics of user usage and behaviour? My MacBook Pro updated last night, had dark mode turned on so I don't have big bright colours all over the place.
Not dug too deep into Safari yet, but some odd choices for the multiple tab highlight colours. After closing the wrong tab a few times, turns out the darker one is the active tab. Makes sense!

But it makes a lot less sense then the prior design. It's non i that I've which goes against everything "apple"Not dug too deep into Safari yet, but some odd choices for the multiple tab highlight colours. Effing useless update - and they can't have huge amount of user feedback on it as it's a new 'feature'.
Apple used to be the greatest in regards to human interface guidelines, but someone must be stupid, or working for Microsoft, as they've flipped the function over form on its head.
I'm running Monterey 12.0 Beta 8 (latest version) on my main Macbook Pro but haven't bothered on my iMacs and other Macbook Pro - they latter are in sync with desktop files using iCloud but the one running the Beta isn't. Is this likely due to the Beta or some other reason I can't work out?

I've found the "Compact" tab layout a bit better, each tab is then it's own search bar rather than the separate one at the top. Particularly disliked that selecting a tab did not enable the search box, the number of times I've selected a tab, started typing and had to do it again after selecting the search box.Not dug too deep into Safari yet, but some odd choices for the multiple tab highlight colours. "Show colour in tab bar" was unticked as soon as I found it.

Dinosaur here running Yosemite 10.10.5 on a 2013 iMac but getting worried by regular warnings telling me that I need to upgrade both OSX and Chrome in order to be 'supported'. Can anybody tell me what I can safely upgrade to without losing access to things like Word docs (the fear of which has stopped me upgrading up to now)?
If there is no way to avoid losing Word as a result of upgrading the OSX, would I be able to translate existing docs into a different word processing programme?
Apparently Chrome needs upgrading but I can't do that on 10.10.5. Grrr. All I want to do really is carry on working quietly with what I've got, but it seems that's not allowed and I have to be dragged through the computing equivalent of a gorse bush.
I don't know if it's connected but as of this morning PH's privacy notice keeps popping up before every action I try to do, irrespective of the answers I'm giving.
V grateful for any help.
ETA trying to use Safari instead of Chrome but Safari can't/won't load PistonHeads

The simplest solution is create a back up - use a pen drive or hard drive and just duplicate anything important to it - just in case. If there is no way to avoid losing Word as a result of upgrading the OSX, would I be able to translate existing docs into a different word processing programme?
