Don't know about anyone else but the camera and battery life seemed to have improved with updates recently.

Yep, agreed. A notable difference I'd say.

laugh

I use my phone quite heavily every day so it's quite noticeable for me. When I work, if I'm not busy, I usually do my browsing on it, like a mini tablet. In fact I generally use it over my iPad Pro now for day to day browsing. I definitely seem to have a bit more left in the tank at the end of the day than in the earlier days.

The camera just seems to be providing more predictable, consistent shots in all conditions. I am very, very impressed with it for a phone, as is everyone I show it to. Definitely its party piece, and having come from a Pixel, it's comfortably better, certainly in terms of versatility. As someone who likes taking pictures, but would never go the full hog with an SLR etc, this is perfect for me.

I have pretty much stopped using all the other lens on the S21 U because the results of portrait mode + x3 optical lens is so good.

I was always too lazy to walk around with a nifty fifty on my real camera as I feared the fixed zoom lens would annoy me.....oh how wrong I was.

The subject framing/isolation you get with the 50-70mm zoom range is just so nature. And overall 'look' of the pictures for some reason is just more balance than the semi wide angle look we are all use to with the main sensor.

Am impressed how the computational photography is also now getting edge detection on hair better. If you zoom in at 100% crop you can tell its faked, but for normal viewing its fine.

Am also amazed how the concept of needing a flash gun has simply disappeared, indoors, outdoors, back lit, low light, there is just no more need it seems for adding light to help with exposure. This thing just seems to be able to produce fantastic results with virtually no effort, get the framing right and it does the rest.

Forget the gimmicky 100× zoom stuff, Samsung needs to pair up the main 108MB sensory with the x3 lens and keep improving the computational software.

Wedding photography on a smart phone instead of lugging around some Canon L lens + gear?? Cannot be that far off!!

I wonder if they're missing a trick, especially with the fold phones and the issue mentioned above about the time to get that to take the shot.

Alongside the normal phone camera, why not sell a separate camera module, bluetooth connection to the phone so it uses all the phones processing and AI stuff, simple format so you can just pull it out of your pocket, point and shoot instantly. Something like your car key fob, but a bit bigger to accommodate the lens etc.

Takes the pressure off the main camera a bit because if you want the best pics you have an option that doesn't have the same physical limits. With it's own memory it could leave the AI stuff until you get home so you can leave your massive phone at home and still get the pics you want.

You could use several together for videos with multiple angles, or for 360 video, clip it to a drone, put it on your bike etc etc. Like a mini go-pro that does everything and makes you give Samsung more money.

Mini go pro type of camera already exists https://www.insta360.com/product/insta360-go

S22 Ultra rumours already begun, poss collaboration with Olympus, they seem to be not standing still on the camera front.

TBH that shows the good and bad of computational photography. You can still tell that the subject isolation is artificial on those shots (the keys look weird, and the girl's hair is not isolated correctly), but they're good enough for quick shots to share online.

Would be fab, my 'proper' camera is a EM5II with a couple of pro lens, haven't touched it for over 6 months now, and I doubt I'll be using it again for along while yet.

This is the x3 optical lens unedited. The lens is good, but the sensor is mega noisy given its the tiny.

This is the natural bokeh on main 108MB sensor with wide angle f1.8 lens - the lack of noise versus the x3 lens sensory is really noticeable.

If Samsung pairs up with Olympus and puts the 108MB sensor with the x3 optical lens that would be enough for me to upgrade to the S22 Ultra......£1000 is a crazy amount to spend on a phone, but man maths says its really that much to spend on new camera gear smile

They are messing around with a 200MP sensor too I believe and a sensor (not lens) that has image stabilsation.

Hi all, looking for some help if possible. My new phone, the S21 arrived yesterday. I've transferred everything over from my S9 but i can't log in to pistonheads on my new device. I can log out and log back in on the S9 no problems. When i try to log in on the S21 it is saying error: invalid username or password, tried powering off and back on but still not letting me log on. Did anyone on here have the same issue? Any advice? It doesn't recognise my e-mail address either even if i try to change the password. Bit frustrating this.

Just to mention, if you spend over £500 on the Samsung website you get a free HK speaker, promotion only on for this week so ends tomorrow. I missed out on it as i ordered my phone last Monday, bummer.

No issue for me logging in to PH. It does automatically switch to upper case when you start typing your username don't know if you haven't spotted that, might be a case sensitive thing?

Thanks for the reply, all log on information is being entered correctly, don't understand this at all. Very frustrating, think i might need to go down the route of creating a new account, which i don't really want to do.

After a number of months with the Fold 2, I've realised, as good as the screen is, I tend to use the outer screen more (which isn't so good..)

After seeing Gangzoom's photos on here, I've decided to change! S21 Ultra in Phantom Silver arriving tomorrow hopefully.
Interestingly I have come to exactly the same conclusion. Had my Fold 2 for a while and for me it has been more of a solution looking for a problem.

I could imagine some use cases where it really works, but like you I found myself using the outer screen more and more.

Going to get an S21U. Want a 512 gb though and they seem to be permanently out of stock.
