I've bought a couple of torches that I don't need as a result of this thread, and now I realise just how much I need an Olight Seeker 2 Pro.

Which I also don't need.
Want. Need. biggrin
I don't need one either.

Ooh, you little temptress!

Is it any good?

I've got 50quid to spend on a torch or two.

Would be nice if rechargeable, absolutely not end world if it takes standard batteries.

Doesn't have to be micro. Max reach maybe around 20m or so.

What does the PH hive mind suggest?

I'm a big fan of these.

Just under your budget and charges easy peasy. I like that you can go to turbo and back with some clicks.

Hopefully their torches are better made than their cases.

£215 for 368 lumens must be a record in pounds per lumen, would be better off with a torch a 10th of the price that would have 10x the output.

This looks quite promising, thanks.

I'm also a big Olight fan. You can buy this blue one on the 10th and the proceeds will go to charity which is pretty good.

Have a look on banggood.com you'll be spoiled for choice. Once you have narrowed your search to one/s you like then look for a youtube review of it, there is bound to be one or more reviews available.

They’re not cheap and even that Peli torch has been superseded by newer/better Peli models. I bet they made a packet from supplying the LAPD though. Plus the usual free advertising/“kudos” (I get that being associated with LAPD is not always necessarily a good thing).

Really? Looks like it is £200 over priced to me. Nothing even lines up on the torch if you look at the pics. Assuming they picked the best one to shoot and put on their site. I'd said it's a big avoid.

What do you want to use it for?

Personally I have an issue with pretty much all RCR123 torches. Especially high output ones. Those batteries just don't contain enough capacity and they go flat super quick unless you use them on dimmer modes. But even then the runtimes are poor.

18650 torches are so much better and hardly any bigger really.

Also as a rule a separate charger is way more useful, as you can at least charge a battery while still using the torch.

Something like this is great vfm:

Under £15 and will out perform the olight with ease. Grab yourself a 2 or 4 bay charger and a couple of quality 18650 batteries.

Bit of a basic numpty question. One of my 18650 batteries is showing strange behaviour. When fully charged it's OK, but when partly discharged then the light flickers. Doesn't do it with any other battery except this one. Headtorch runs for a while, then momentarily cuts out, then runs again. Suspect that the voltage drops rather sooner than normal. Definitely doesn't get hot on discharge or charge.

It's a decent make, a protected Panasonic cell with ThruNite branding. My feeling is simply to bin it, not even keep it as a spare as there's something wrong and don't want any fire or other failure. Fair few cycles, maybe ~200 though that's nothing special. Thoughts?

Primarily putting the bins out and just having a useful man tool smile. It doesn't need to be tiny or anything if something larger has better battery life.

I'd guess most of the time it would be on a dimmer setting rather than 'handheld Sun'

Generally I disagree with 300bhp on pretty much everything. But he's right. On every count.

I assume this is hyperbole at best but I'm in the market for a super torch.

Thoughts?

Well - the ad seems to quote at least three different outputs - 4k lumens, 10k and 20k and apparently it wil run on three AA batteries too

Spend your money elsewhere - if they can get their ad wording right, what chance is there that the torch will be any good?

Are you after flood or throw?

Thanks, you're right of course. Not that far away from a Wish product.

I don't need massive range, I'd like to be able to light a good area in front of me if I'm out with the dogs, I dunno, 14 metres throw with as much flood as possible?

Have both!

This is my current go-to everyday torch - solid build, smooth focus, pocketable size, decent output and a handy feature of the on/off button glowing red when the battery is getting low.
Does need an 18650 battery though, so if you're not set up with those and a charger, maybe consider the version with a built-in usb charger.

Ah - you see - that's how it all starts....

If you only need 15-ish metres of throw, then something small and light will suffice - £20 - £30 and 500-ish lumens will be plenty, although if you want to go for top quality, a Fenix PD35 is all the torch you'll ever need.

But then you'll go out with the dog and think "wouldn't it be nice to see a bit further?...." and all of a sudden you've spent £150 on a 4,000 lumen TM06s (which have come down in price qute a lot recently)
