June 7th is iPhone announcement day

I know very little about what Jailbreaking actually gets you but if you Jailbreak an iPhone, can you get hold of normally paid-for Apps for free (ie illegally)?
If not, then this is possibly the reason no-one cares if the Jailbreak an iPhone. The main reason for hacking consoles is to be able to use pirated games, hence why they try to stop this.
Also don't forget that one of the few main criticisms of the iPhone has always been it's locked-down nature, which is fine for 99% of people but not for that 1% of geeks who want to change icons etc and have something unique to them. As already said, Apple are happy to facilitate these people with the caveat that "you break it, it's not our problem".

i jailbroke my payg o2 because Orange is the only network that works in the office - this was when o2 was the only network. jailbreaking allowed me to install an app to bypass the sim lock.If not, then this is possibly the reason no-one cares if the Jailbreak an iPhone. with jailbreaking came an alternative app store (which i never used) but in this app store as well as loads of apps not normally available (such as the sim lock bypass) there were also foc copies of regular paid for apps.

I upgraded my 3GS from 4 to 4.01. My normal 5 bar signal at home (courtesy of the Vodafone Sure Signal thing) has now dropped to two bars. Odd.
Not at all odd, that was exactly the point of the update.f13ldy said:
Why are phones purchased after the 30th September not eligible for a free bumper?
Are they planning to rectify the problem with an amended model? If so I'd rather one of those. I don't use any type of case and now begrudge having to just to have the standard capabilites available to me...
They said they were going to review the situation on the 30th September to see if they can justify still giving away a free case. The point they were trying to make is at the launch of the 3gS 80% of people bought the phone with a case, but because the cases were so sparse at the launch of this phone only 20% of people bought one. They are wondering if this is having the effect of the increase in number of dropped calls when compared to the 3gS; so I guess by the 30th Sept. they will have enough evidence one way or another. Are they planning to rectify the problem with an amended model? I've had mine without a case on, since the launch and have so far spent just over 20 hours making calls, I've not had one call drop due to the way I hold it. I tried various things when I first got heard about it but nothing worked. I'll get my free case - well because it's free - but I will probably not be using it, can't see why I'd want to cover the best looking part of the phone!
I can guarantee if this 'problem' wasn't so well publicised on the web then the majority of users wouldn't even know a problem existed.
Just my 2p's worth. I've been happy with mine since I had it, the screen is amazing and the battery life compared to the old phone is awesome.

Not at all odd, that was exactly the point of the update.I did understand the point of the update (i.e. that previously the signal was overstated), but this doesn't seem to accurately represent the signal strength. Next to the Sure Signal it should be 100%.
Does anyone have any tips for actually getting hold of one through Tesco?
I've registered my interest, I get an email saying they're in stock but when I call up they say "oh no, only some stores have stock" and they "may have some more in next month". Why on earth isn't it possible to phone up and place an order for these things?

Because Apple won't tell them when or how many they will be receiving. They've got a good product. Why they have to play these silly marketing games is beyond me.

I seem to recall reading/hearing that screen supply is limiting the rate at which they can build them. Which is fair enough.I would imagine that they'd also like to flatten the supply curve, which'd help the whole supply chain and keep up the fervour around getting one. I guess Ferrari could make quite a few more 458's to satisfy the demand that's out there, but they choose not to

Upgraded mine this morning without problems. Not that I've had an issue with the loss of signal. Mind you the 3G networks in HK are pretty good
I wonder how I'd go about getting my case, I guess it would need to ship to my UK address, damn.
I could do with a couple more of them to be honest. I was offered $14,00 HKD yesterday for mine. About £1300 I really should have taken it.
Grey imports are selling for around $16,000-$20,000 by all accounts.
Will that still be the case when the iphone 4 becomes available in HK in about 10 days? Just interested because i am thinking about ordering a couple more to take back to HK. Really dependson supply at the time i supposeI wonder how I'd go about getting my case, I guess it would need to ship to my UK address, damn.

Bl@@dy hell - £1,300!! Wish I had contacts in HK, as I'd happily sell my iPhone4 16gb (Vodafone upgrade a couple of weeks back) for £800!! Grey imports are selling for around $16,000-$20,000 by all accounts.
So the bumpers are supposed to be made free as of tomorrow but there is no news on the Apple site, it just says keen an eye on www.apple.com
Anyone got any info?
