Thanks. If using a USB charger will it cut off when 100% or do you have to unplug it? I've heard of li ion cells catching fire and I'm the sort of person to forget its on charge.
Li-ion is potentially volatile. I'd suggest treating them with similar respect to a can of petrol. But apart from this, they should be fine to use.

The in-built chargers can vary a lot. Some are fine, some less so. It really depends on the exactly light in question. If you go for a standalone charger, again there is a lot of variance in quality. Although a good charger should only be £12-18

Charging via USB the charger circuit is part of the torch or separate charger. The USB is only supplying power. The charger should terminate when the battery is charged. Personally I wouldn't leave it connected for extended periods. I'just plug it in to charge it, rather than leave it connected all the time.

A multi meter to check battery voltage is super handy with Li-ion. That way you can check the state of a battery easily.

Something like this would be fine: https://ebay.us/fNeeD8

Any recommendations for a big torch for protection - something like a Maglite 3 x C or D cells.
The torch part doesn't have to be that good, but 2 or 3 x 18650 or C or D cell batteries length. The cheaper, the better.

Protection from what? If you are in the UK, you are more likely to prosecuted for using it as an offensive weapon than you are in need of defending yourself with such a thing.

TBH, you might be better with a fairly bright torch with a strobe mode - a strobe in the face of a burglar is more likely to deter them than whacking them with a D-Cell Maglite. Less likely to get you prosecuted as well.

My view is that if a burglar gets into our house (and past the 12-stone dog), they can have whatever they can find - it's all insured.

I'm sure for self defence, there are many more suitable objects than a torch. Plus, as said I think you would be on shaky ground legally in the UK if this is your intent/desire.

However, if you want it for this purpose. Then Maglite (https://maglite.com/) still offer a range of lights in 2D thru to 6D cell sizes in both LED and incandescent versions. As well as some C cell sized offerings and rechargeables.

You'll probably need to order online. And in the UK they are more pricey than in the USA. But they are well built and reasonable performing lights.

If you are really wanting a 'weapon' grade light. Solarforce, sadly now defunct. Used to sell something called the Gladiator.

It uses a "p60" drop-in for the LED and electronics. So is easy to upgrade to the latest LED tech.

I'm sure if you wanted one, you'd be able to find some old stock or a used one.

I suspect companies like coast or Led Lenser also offer D cell sized lights still, akin to the Maglites in size. Although probably not as big as a 6D. But these might be a lot more pricey.

A quick look on Google seems to suggest you can buy club or baseball bat lights. I suspect as a torch these are all rubbish. But if it's what you are after....

This rather confirms my theory - last time this offer was about, my dad and I both snapped them up. Both received ‘vienetta mint’ green. I’m assuming there’s a few pallets full that aren’t being sold...

I assume you were eligible to order earlier as an existing 'silver' customer?

Eventually got it to work. I think when I was trying to share via email, as Gmail is my default mail client. The webpage just wasn't recognising this. Found a workaround though.

If you get anything like that, you might as well be saying 'lock me up'
If you want plausible deniability on something that's a household tool, yet *could* be employed for other usage, get a decent fire extinguisher wink

Granted it'll work pretty poorly as a torch....
but it can sit at home and be the thing you grabbed 'in a panic' fearing for your life' and be completely plausible, unlike 'Mr baseball torch'

6D mag, but sadly the batteries went dead last week so it was laying around empty.

Much better / quicker to swing around than a fully loaded one.

From another thread it looks like there's a reason to dust of some torches tonight smile

Probably won't do much good - but I'll be doing this tonight - will be very interesting to see how many of my neighbours do it, too.

A CO2 fire extinguisher with a non tapered horn makes quite a decent weapon with a decent range (have one 5kg and one 20kg in my house) and has the benefit that you can shout freeze and then give them frostbite if they don't comply.

I recently bought an unbranded LEP to go with my Weltool W4 and the unbranded LEP has no laser safety warnings on the case and also has a strobe mode which would take out anyone within seconds, its also got a castellated crown and weighs around a Kilo....

Only has a throw of 1800 meters but it's got quite a wide beam pattern for a LEP and costs half the price of the Weltool, it's become my EDC.

Get yourself some AA to D cell adapters and run Sanyo Eneloop AA's in it.

300 bhp, yep tried the FT03 last night and putting it in Turbo {double click} certainly makes a difference, taters the battery life though. frown

Those graphs you showed for the FT03, have you something similar for the L6 by any chance? Much appreciated if you have, if not, no problem will do a bit of searching when got more time.

Before the advent of small LED torches, and the widespread use of the Arnold baton by the BiB, many would approach dodgy situations with a 6DCell maglight atop their shoulder so it was already raised ready to whack someone with..... Much quicker than drawing the truncheon and generally far heavier.

Remember one been thrown at a burglar whom was running away and it hit him square on the back and downed him in a squeal of pain......

I’ll see see if I can find a graph for the L6.

For the FT03. I’m pretty sure you can program the High output, so you can make it brighter than the default setting but not as bright as Turbo. So it should give more runtime. You can also program the temp sensor on when it’ll ramp down too. If you Google Anduril UI. You should get info on how to do this.

Whilst i have owned torches, I have never had a use or need for one. Maybe the only exception is a head torch for when I'm repairing my pushbike in the garage, but I can't ever recall being in a situation where I needed a hand torch. Maybe I use my iPhones torch more than I think?

Looking for a small torch for £20 or less. Led lenses was recommended but I have had trouble with them and customer service.

Got a klarus Mi1c and love it but it’s discontinued, was about £35 though.

Is there anything you can recommend?

If it's the same size you are after, the Olight S1R baton is almost identical, really well engineered, but usually £50 - it's currently 40 at most places at the moment.
Thrunite T1 similar size and output around 35.
Lumintop FW3A uses an 18650 so a little bigger, but around 30 quid and 2500+ lumens
